Have you ever passed by a girl and are struck by how good her hair smells? Like, she passes by you and the smell of her hair lingers around you for a while?
How!?
What shampoo/conditioner can I use that will keep the fragrance in my hair for a long time?
darkeyes--this is a good thread. Funny, because now that winter is here Ireally only wash my hair 2-3x a week. Well, Friday I worked a REALLY long day 9am-11pm. I did not wash my hair, but by about 7pm I could really smell my hair....now thats gross. I kpet thinking I needed PSSST
I have been in line at the bank or market behind girls with amazing smelling hair. I really don't know how they do it
I am using Organix Vanilla Silk shampoo and conditioner. It's such a nice smell and when I use my flat iron the heat makes the scent really come out...It is so nice.
I've found that some shampoos have scents that last longer than others. However, even these scents tend to fade away after the first day or so...maybe those with permanently fragrant hair wash it every day?
Also, the amount of time I leave my conditioner in my hair seems to correspond to how long the scent lingers afterwards.
I use Herbal Essences shampoos and conditioners and they smell lovely...my hair does smell nice for awhile, but I wouldn't say it's actually long-lasting. I'm not sure about any certain hair types maintaining scent for longer, though.
I was at Wal-Mart last night smelling the different shampoos, especially the Herbal Essence ones.
Does anyone remember the scent from when they first came out? No one has been able to replicate it and they do not have that scent anymore. It was the best scent ever.
Guess I am dating myself here. That was back in the '70's.

I had a boyfriend who absolutely adored the way my hair smelled and commented on it constantly! During this time I was using a variety of Fekkai products from the "glossing" line, which honestly, might almost smell too strong for you (and, in my case, were too expensive, which is why I don't use them anymore)! However, if you LIKE the way they smell, this might be just what you are looking for. Try the Fekkai glossing cream first to see if you like the smell. (I use a teensy amount on dry hair for shine)
I'll date myself with you, Lynette! I definitely remember the Herbal Essence commercials from the 70s. Oh, the excitement! It was a beautiful emerald green color. The smell was like nothing else on the market at the time and the flower-power generation LOVED it!
cate- get the travel size of the glossing cream-only 9 bucks (much cheaper than full size) and because you really need to use teeny amount, don't waste the extra cash on the big size, the travel will last foreva! Then take the cash you saved and buy yourself some other goodies! lol
Some people use hair perfumes, which could be what you're smelling. Some fragrances make a lighter scent to put in your hair. Some people also spray a little bit of regular perfume in their hair because the scent stays on your hair much longer than it does on your skin. I'm sure all that alcohol is really bad for your hair, though.
My sister-in-law used to spray body sprays on her children's hair if they didn't get a bath or wash it. They are boys and they loved putting "smellies" on their hair!
Uh, oh! I am just about to finish off yet another full-sized bottle of the Fekkai Glossing Cream!!! I think it was actually the travel size that got me hooked, but now I honestly goes through those things faster than bottles of toothpaste!
Thanks, ladies! My hair definitely lacks shine  but I've got a gift card for Bath & Body Works, where they carry the Fekkai line, so I think I"ll pick up some glossing cream and give it a try!.
I've been using baby powder on the days where I don't wash my hair, and it keeps my hair from smelling gross. In fact, it smells like baby powder!
As for shine.. I apply any shine serum/leave-in conditioner/smoothing milk after showering pretty much every single time I wash my hair. After I'm done styling my hair (when I do style it), I put in a bit more shine serum. Ask Karen.. my hair can get unbelievable shiny. Well, genetics, good hair cuts, constant trims, they all help keep my healthy and happy.
Oh yea.. super moisturizing shampoo and conditioner helps. Prive I tell you, keeps hair happy, while keeping your wallets unhappy. =D
I really love the Nexxus Headdress leave in conditioner. It makes your hair super soft and shiny w/ just a dime size and it only has a light clean sent but it really makes my hair shine!
-taiwanesegurl, would you mind listing what the ingredients in the Prive conditioner are? After your review and the talk about Prive, I'm very curious about it now... no ingredient listings on their website (of course!)
I didn't like the Fekkai glossing cream; I found it too heavy for my fine hair. I really like Bedhead's Headrush Shine. It's really light and makes my hair nice and shiny and when I had highlights it really made them show up and sparkle. It's an ultra fine mist, so it's a little better for my hair, but still weighs it down a bit.
Sylvie, TaiwaneseGirl DISCOVERED Prive before I was lucky enough to test the shampoo and conditioner.
The ingredient list for the Reparative Conditioner is pretty long but includes proteins and fruit extracts. Since I got the travel size my eyes can't actually SEE all the ingredients in the teeny tiny type.
The description on Amazon is as follows: Herbal Blend #14 Enriched with ginseng and rose hips, Herbal Blend #14 provides intense conditioning for dry, chemically treated hair in a weightless reconstructor.
Mmucosmetics makes a spray called Angel Mist that you can spray on your hair. You pick the fragrance you want. I love it! It's also a great way to freshen your hair if you feel it's smelling a bit off during the day. You can use it on your body also as a body spray. It travels well in a purse or gym bag also. It doesn't make my hair greasy either....probably because it's aloe vera based.
You know what makes a really great bath and body-type gift? The Philosophy collection. The 3-in-1s are great and they have some grouped together by theme, like a cocktails one, that are smaller and come 3 to a little box. You might consider giving one of those as a gift, Cate.
oooh yes i like this.. .
well ive noticed with my hair, i can't smell it at all a few hours after washing it.. but ill ask one of my friends.. and they say my hair smells really good!
so i think sometimes maybe our noses get used to the smell.. .i mean its always by our faces haha
i also noticed when i used a heat protectant spray and then blowdry or sraighten my hair, my hair comes out smelling soooo good !
i usually don't pay too much attention to fancy shmancy smellling shampoos cause some of them tend to have a lot of alcholl in them, which dries out my hair!
i like to use the more natural shampoos like the aveeda brands and then use a good heat protectant spray..i use TREsemme's heat spray! i think it smells wonderful!!
They probably spray a light shot of fragrance into their hair. My friends constantly tell me that my hair smells really good. I use Panteene Pro-v Shampoo with Tresemee Conditioner.
I'm not a silicone-hater, so I love silicone serum, and I will sometimes put a few drops of EO in my palm along with a little bit of silicone serum, rub my palms together briskly, and just pat it through the ends of my hair. I never wear it down, though -- but I can smell the EO on it and on my hands.
I love jasmine, lilac, and lily of the valley. I LOVE single-note florals. There are very few blended scents that I like much.
