What is a really good leave in conditioner?
  • Whats is the best leave in conditioner? I have thin straight hair and I dont like it to be weighed down.....does anyone have any advice? I would love to try something new with a great smell and mega shine.
  • Matrix Biolage Smoothing Shine Milk works GREAT!!! It is light weight, yet the shine you get is unbelievable.

Not recommended for short oily hair though. One of my sister has oily hair cut short, and this makes her hair look greasy by about, 6 PM. Not a very pretty look.
  • Do you find that you have to wash your hair the next day when you use leave-in products? I gave up on shine serums when I stopped washing my hair every day because I couldn't stand the way it looked or felt the next day. But maybe I was just using the wrong products.
  • I have super duper oily hair and scalp, so my hair is nasty on day 2, with or without leave-in conditioner. I use baby powder when I get lazy or wake up late for work. Also, I don't put anything near my roots, since well.. they get oily and shiny naturally.

Like I said previously too, if you have short oily hair like my sister, I don't recommend using a leave-in conditioner. Also her hair is not chemically treated, so she doesn't need all that moisture like my other sisters and me, yet she used the same products. Oh well.. she's not really big on beauty.

Anyhow.. if you do find your ends to be all limp and dried, put products on your ends, and work it up the most amount of product is deposited into your ends, and nothing gets near your roots.
  • Carol's daughter makes some nice light leave-in conditioners:

I haven't had any problems with oilness w/ the black-vanilla one.
  • I use Potion Number 9 by Sebastian, and love it. It smells divine.
  • I like Healthy Sexy Hair Pumpkin Potion Leave In Conditioner and Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri Wheat Leave In Conditioner products by Sexy Hair Concepts. Both smell very good, and you don't have to use a lot of either. My hair has a tendency to "go limp" if I use a heavy leave in "anything" (conditioner, gel, pomade, wax, etc) The Healthy Sexy Hair leave in stuff has made my hair softer and shinier without making it look plastered to my head. :) http://www.beauty-mart.com/category/shop_by_brand.sexy_hair_concepts.healthy_sexy_hair_pumpkin/
  • Garnier Fructis leave in conditioner is good ^^!!! It's not all that heavy or anything and it even stops frizz and stuff!!

  • I'm a hairstylist and I think that leave-in treatments are ALMOST ALWAYS heavy and oily looking on straight, fine hair.  Leave-in treatments are intended for coarse, colored, or thick hair since these types are able to withstand the WEIGHT of the moisture provided in leave-in products.  If you are looking for SHINE only, there's a product made by AQUAGE called BEYOND SHINE.  It is a weightless aerosol spray that duel purposed:  used alone on dry hair it provides shine and smoothes, and used before flat ironing it provides THERMAL protection as well as IMPROVES the performance of your ceramic iron, thus causing less damage from heat.  And less frizz needing leave-in conditioning.

  • Gidget is right!
I recently started using Aquage "Beyond Shine" and it's now my "Holy grail / I can't live without it" haircare product.  I've tried all the products suggested on the forum to get shinier hair without great results. I've also used various flat iron thermal protector sprays with only so-so results. Beyond Shine is a great product for both. It makes my hair slippery smooth & shiny with the very first pass of my iron on each section so it saves me time, as well. Absolutely LOVE IT!!!
  • hi Karen
where do you get "beyond shine", never heard of it but I am willing to give it a try
I have a product NOT to try, Elin Lavar scalp and hair oil, even after I washed it twice it still looked like I haven't clean my hair for weeks!!!
  • Hi Fitness Brain!
I get it through my stylist. I did a quick Google search to see if Aquage has a website and they do. Go to aquage.com and click on the Store Locator tab at the top of their home page; then put in your zip code.
It gets great reviews at makeupalley.com, too. The trick is to spray it on lightly. That's a good thing because you'll use less so it lasts a really long time!
  • Thanks karen
found some salons that carry it, but I feel weird just going to buya  product, when I go to the salon almost next door
I found it on sale at sleehari.com
    may give it a try

    Hi
someone told me that" It's a 10 Ten - Miracle Leave In Product" is fantastic, there is a maks as well
    anyone tried it?

  • I have also heard about "It's a 10" but haven't seen it in the stores yet I'm very curious about this product as well as "No Frizz" by living proof. Anyone know anything about these products?
  • Paul Mitchell's Leave In Conditioner is amazing
  • I'm sorry to post here but I simply couldn't figure out how to start a new thread, nor did there seem to be a thread about this already.

I would like to know how to use olive oil and coconut on my hair.

My little experiment is that I'm trying to wash my hair only once a week. My hair is fine and I feel that when I wash it too much (every 2-3 days), I get so many fly-aways and my hair seems so dry on the first two days, but then on the third day it gets completely oily. So I keep pushing my wash off one more day every week and I want to end up only washing my hair once a week.

I don't want to use too many hair products while trying this out, I feel like they are contributing to making my hair so oily on the third day. I probably use too heavy cones or too much product. My cone serum (John Frieds Weather Works) contains dimethicone as the third ngredient, first ingredient being water, and second one being cyclopentasiloxane, maybe I should opt for something containing only cyclopentasiloxane.

Anyway, I want to skip on the products for a while just as an experiment, but in this cold weather, I still need some moisture or I get very static hair. So I want to use olive oil and/or coconut oil to give my hair some moisture. How should I use it for the best results? Should I put it in as a treatment just before my weekly wash, or should I put it in afterwards? While my hair is wet or dry? All over, or just at the ends? Will this provide the same protection as cones?

Also, if any of you have experience with stepping down your hair washing, I would love to hear about it. It's wednesday and I washed my hair saturday morning and it's now so oily I can barely stand it. But I am not going to wash it before tomorrow morning. How long does it take for your hair to get used to it?
  • Dimethicone may be a bit heavy for your hair since it's fine; it's great for mine, but my hair is coarse and very thick. Generally, the thinner and more lightweight your hair, the thinner and more lightweight your conditioner should be.

Coconut oil is great; I use it only on the ends of my hair since that's where it seems to need it most. I just scrape off a blob about the size of two raisins, rub my palms together to liquefy it, andwork it through the ends. That might be a bit much for you, I don't know. You really don't need too much of it at all. I also sometimes mix in a few drops of a nice essential oil, usually lilac or jasmine, although today it's rose.

I wash my hair once a week, but like I said, it's coarse, thick, and wavy, and hair like that seems to handle it a bit better. I also wear it up all the time, so it looks presentable for pretty much the entire week.
  • I use coconut oil and olive oil once a week. I have very fine, color-treated hair. I whisk together about a teaspoon of each and then apply it with silicone pastry brush.  It's neater and easier and I can control where I apply it. I don't put it on the roots; that just makes it harder to wash out. You can use a regular pastry brush but it's harder to wash. You can put the silicones one in the dishwasher. The oils won't  just rinse out so I apply it before I wash my hair and let it sit for 15-30 minutes, then I wash my hair.. After I wash, I use the tiniest bit of Terax Crema conditioner.
Don't use too much. It'll just drip all over the place and make a mess. It stains so don't do it while you're wearing your favorite cashmere sweater or even your favorite tee-shirt. Also, be sure to wash your hair well after. It's not easy to get out so you'll probably have to lather twice. You'll probably want to condition after to smooth the cuticle and make your hair more manageable.
I tried stepping down my hair washing when I was coloring it red. I did it for over a year and it never got any better. I still needed to wash my hair 4 or 5 times a week so I finally switched to a very warm brown color. I miss the red but I'd rather be able to wash my hair when it needs it. My hair is very fine and the least bit of oil makes it limp and lifeless and frankly, I can't stand the way it feels. I've tried some of the oil control products and they make it feel a little better but it still looks awful. It might work for someone with thicker hair or someone who has better styling skills then I do but I can't ever get my "second day hair" to not look like crap.
