Tell us your latest skincare purchase
  • I thought it would be nice to have a separate topic for skin care products, since the makeup topic is so popular. Hopefully, this will minimize the clutter in both topics and make it easier to find an old post.

I just got the Caudelie lip balm that you guys have been raving about. I also got Tarte Frxtion. I've been using Lip Scuff by the Body Shop but they seem to have the worst quality control ever.

I also picked up the Dove pro-age body lotion and hand cream. I didn't get the one for dry skin; I got the one with 4% AHA. I'm hoping that 4% is a low enough percentage that I can use it without irritating my skin. it's a crappy moisterizer but I doubt I'll be able to use it more than once a day, maybe not even that often.

I also picked up the Nivea Smooth Indulgence Hand Cream. So far, I like it better than the Aveeno Intense Relief Hand Cream, which was fine in the summer but doesn't cut the mustard now that winter's here.

Not done yet -- I got a tub of the Queen Helene cocoa butter stuff and also the Nivea Essentially Enriched lotion and a big tub of Nivea cream.

What's so scary is that it's possible for me to use them all at once.
  • WOW...PurpleRules...what a shopping haul! You should be set for Winter!

Thanks for starting this separate discussion on skincare...I think if I recommend the Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Dry-Block Sunscreen ONE MORE TIME I will be banned from the Forum. It seems to be my answer to all questions but never mind.

My last two skincare items have been Neutrogena's Intensive Anti-Wrinkle Serum (NAY!) and Eucerin's Redness Relief Soothing Anti-Aging Serum (NAY!). I was trying these serums as an alternative to Paula Begouns Super Anti-Oxidant Serum. WRONG MOVE. Both of the other products irritated my Rosacea, so I am back to Paula Begoun which was just fine. but I wanted to try something else. I also use prescription MetroCream when the Rosacea acts up.

The Eucerin product got raves on MakeUpAlley but I am thinking that all people who have reddish skin may not have Rosacea so perhaps it has worked for them. The Neutrogena product did not get good review I found AFTER I bought the damned stuff. Oh well, these aren't high priced items so live and learn.
  • My latest skin care product was an ULTA Salycilic Acid face wash. So far so good...but I have only used it twice. My face seemed ultra red and dry this morning afte using it, but I DO wash my face in the shower and it was so warm and snuggly in there this morning..I may have turned the hot water up on more than one occasion..:shamed:
  • I use the Neutogenia Ultra-sheer Dry-Block sunscreen too. It's one of the skincare products that I'm very faithful to. Cetaphil is another. I stocked up on those a few weeks ago so I should be well moisterized and protected from the sun for the winter. Now I can go back to buying fun stuff.
  • Pretty boring:

Two bottles of Purpose face wash, Boots Complexion Refining Moisturizer with SPF, and a jar of Alba Botanica Aloe and Green Tea Oil Free Moisturizer. I can't get as crazy with skin products as I can with makeup.

Hell, what am I talking about? I can't get crazy with makeup other than mascara and lip gloss!
  • I went on a binge and stocked up on Shiseido sunblock. I also bought L'Occitane "Immortalle" (or however you spell it) serum for the first time (I've always liked their lotions) and decided to give DermaDoctor AHA face wash a try. And then I stocked up on Chapstick!
  • bobanerd: What do you like about Shiseido sunblock? I'd like to hear more about it!
  • It keeps you WHITE! It seriously blocks sun, and it's quite matte.

Expensive, but one of the best sunblocks ever.

That, and I'm betting that bobanerd grew up with Shiseido like me (as in, other people in our life used Shiseido). I only stop using Shiseido because whatever fragrance they use in their products irritate my skin.
  • you know me too well, taiwanesegurl =) Actually...my mom didn't like Shiseido because it irritated her skin, too. since I heard her complain so much, I avoided using Shiseido products while I was growing up. I used a whole slew of sunscreens but they were all so greasy. Plus, my skin reacts badly to avobenzone and most chemical sunscreens. Just this year I read all sorts of rave reviews for the Shiseido Ultimate Sun protection cream (sorry for sounding like an ad) and what drew me in to try was that someone described it as being powdery and really good at mattifying (is that a word?). so that's when I decided to try. As taiwanesegurl said, it definitely has a fragrance though luckily it doesn't irritate my skin. it DOES leave being a white cast due to the zinc oxide but most importantly, this stuff really does keep my skin matte- and I have seriously shiney skin! it is SPF 55 which many people will think is overkill but to me, the more the better. hope this helps, Karen!
  • bobanerd--When I got married, my husband and I went to St. Maarten for our honeymoon (a year and a half later) and while I was there we ran out of sunscreen and so I went into a pharmacy and bought a sunscreen that was SPF 65....he was mad he didn't get any sun, but me...my Irish self was glad to not get sunburned. I saw girls that were so severely red their first day that it ruined their vacation. I felt bad for them. I only ruined one vacation when I was 14 and my parents took us to St. Thomas...I screwed up my sunscreen and went snorkeling....lets just say I had very red cheeks
  • I don't think I am enjoying my ULTA brand face wash...my cheeks and jawline are really dry...to the point where I am REALLY slathering lotion on. I think I need to bite the bullet and get serious about a skin care regime...I can't seem to get rid of the acne with benzoyl peroxide because my face dries out and Salacylic acid isn't working either. I can't use SALONPAS because it makes me cry...WTH. I think I am going to really research some of the products mentioned in this forum and go for it. I have always been concerned with spending money, but these products I am using are not working.

I'm just really bummed by the whole thing
  • Thanks, bobanerd for the good info. I need a very good sunscreen.

Cate: When your skin is really dry or bothering you, have you ever tried washing it with Cetaphil? It is great for dry skin and is always recommended by doctors for people who are experiencing excessive dryness from OTC or prescribed acne products. It will not cause acne. My face feels so much better after I wash it: Soft & clean and definitely no "angry face" symptoms to deal with!
  • Karen--I will try that. Thanks!
  • Cate, do you have a dermatologist? Besides the skin cancer screening they do they can diagnose your skin problems accurately so that you are not spending a fortune on products that may further irritate your skin. If your skin has changed it always good to check with them.
  • Hi cate
In the quest for a new face wash I bumped into something I really like, is the new olay pore refining mousse cleanser
it is great if you have pimples but gentle on the skin, and feel good
I am still recovering from my OD
  • Judy--I don't have one, but maybe I should look into seeing one in the near future...or after the holidays
  • Cate
I do go to the dermatologist, can't say I have one, I have several, because I go to the dermatology department of UPENN medical school
It is good because you get a lot of different opinions, and the resident that has been seeing me helps me out with anything I ask. Even stuff about my scalp, and age spots,
my experience is that they will help you out with anything they think they may know something about. I still OD on over the counter stuff, but that's my problem I guess, he seems to think I am too obsessed over my huge pimples that no one else can see.

It can be mortifying sometimes, last time the residents and several professors in the department spent a while looking at one of my moles, discussing and looking at it again with a magnifying glass, the mole was on my chest, pretty low on my cleavage, and the residents were mostly guys, AWKWARD!!
But I am sure if I ever get skin cancer they will catch it before hand (I go every year), I have a family history and way too many sunburns under my belt, so better this way, going there is also pretty cheap for me.
The resident I like is going into private practice next year, so I may stay with him, he is nice and very helpful.
  • FB, thanks for the tips. I should really get myself to a dermatologist since I tan , but the insurance I get through school isn't very good. You would think the school would cough up a bit more money for health insurance so that their grad students would stay healthy since they already invest so much money in us, but I guess not. I had to pay $250 just yesterday at the doctor's office! Sometimes I really miss the days of having a job, living in the real world, and having good health insurance! What cost me $250 yesterday used to cost me $20 with BCBS. Oh well.

I live right on the edge of a HUGE medical district that has a few schools in it. I'll have to look to see if there are any dermatological schools that I can go to make a dermatologist trip affordable.
  • pas
I am a grad student too, although my health insurance is pretty OK, it is not great
that's why I volunteer to be guinea pig for residents, I only pay a small copay to go there
and after being an ultimate sun worhsipper, always tanned beach bunny, I can tell you by my own family experience
yes, almost everyone looks better and thinner with a tan
no, the price is not worth it
    please don't tan
self tanners can do a very decent job this days
  • FB, lucky you being able to get a complete workup by med students et al.

I should disclose to Cate that the last time I went to my dermatologist and asked about something for age spots he wanted to SELL me on expensive laser treatments which rather annoyed me! I wanted a prescription for some extra strength cream. Sigh...however if you are having a new skin "condition" it is worthwhile to check with a MD.

Since I pay medical claims I know WHY the dermatologists like to recommend cosmetic treatments...they are cash only transactions instead of insurance based svcs.
  • FB, I know, I know, I know that I shouldn't tan. I was really good for 3 years, only using self-tanner. Then I got a part-time job at a tanning salon...
  • FB I go to PENN for dental work. I'm taking a whole day off in Feb to get down to the nitty gritty that is my teeth

Well, I just bought some stuff from Paula last week. I only got in Friday and started using it that night. My acne has cleared up quite a bit on my chin. My face in general is much softer and smoother. I made my husband feel it the other day in the car just to make sure I wasn't making it up. I got:

    Gentle Face Wash
    1 % BHA cream exfoliator
    Spot Treatment
    Hydrating lotion
    Essential sunblock
Carbon Mask (this burned like hell for about a minute)

This was all part of a kit for Oily/Combination skin prone to blemishes. I just paraphrased what the product is called.
  • Cate, I don't think you can go wrong with Paula Begoun. It isn't exciting stuff but it never backfires on you like other products can. Her products are very well formulated to do what they say they can do. No extravagant promises just solid skincare.
  • i just bought clean and clear's persa-gel 10, all it is, is benzoyl peroxide 10%... my skin has never had trouble with acne but i recently used No7. (boots) new stay perfection liquid foundation, and about 2 weeks later my skin broke out all over especially on my forehead with huge ugly bumps...i guess i was allergic or something, but after i realized what had caused it, i started using clean and clear sensitve skin wash, which helped a little but at some points made it worse.. so i just bought this persa-gel stuff, and so far all it does is make my zits get big and then go away.. but ive only used it 3 or 4 times so far...
does anyone have any suggestions as to what i can use to get rid of these crazy zits??
  • salonpas (get it at your local CVS or asian grocery store), BHA gel/lotion from Paula Begoun, and hydrocortisone cream like cortaid.

it totally helps get rid of acne..
  • I picked up 4 samples of eye creams or gels at Blue Mercury last night. I'm looking for an alternative to Relastin since it can only be purchased on-line and I HATE the pump dispenser. (I don't hate all pump dispensers, just this one.)

New favorites in my winter arsenal are Nivea hand cream and Caudelie lip balm. I tried a 4% AHA serum that I picked up at Sally Beauty on my face but it was still too irritating so I'm using it on my feet, along with Queen Helene cocoa butter. Then I put on thick cotton socks and go to bed. Be warned if you're thinking of trying this yourself -- it's a very sexy look. You might want to get a flannel nightgown from LL Bean to complete the ensemble.
  • Hahahhahahhahahhaa, that's funny. My boyfriend often puts his socks on first in the morning when he gets dressed, so he'll walk around for a bit in just boxers and socks, which I find hilarious.

Then if I start laughing, he'll usually do a little dance.
  • When you see those lists of things you should never do when you're trying to impress a member of the opposite sex -- wearing underwear, socks and nothing else is always on them, seriously. I bet if you search the Men's Health website (I assume such a website exists, I've never actually gone there. Really.) you'll get a hit.
  • Another thing to add to that list is wearing a shower cap...although my hubby thinks I look cute in it...he really is kind...lol!
  • I think that after time these things can become endearing.
  • pas they are. He's even kept his mouth shut when I 'forget' to shave my legs for a week or longer...*sigh*
  • Purple: Have you considered Teamine Eye Complex for under the eyes? I got some free samples of it from an online beauty store and loved it. If you absolutely don't want a product that you have to buy online, then you'll want to skip it unless you find a dermatologist in your area that sells it. But you'll also pay list price if that's where you purchase it (~$55). I recently bought a jar on eBay for $33 which includes the shipping. The seller sells jars and jars of it every day. I know it's the real thing because I followed the BB's advice and e-mailed the manufacturer directly with the lot number. I was happy to find out the jar I had purchased was indeed Revision's product and had left their factory only two months before I received it so this seller is a reliable source for it.

After almost three months of use, it has most definitely taken away any fine lines I had under my eyes. It also claims to remove under-eye circles. I haven't found that to work for me yet but I have had thin skin under my eyes all my life so I didn't expect miracles. It has the possibility of being able to do so, though, based on the inclusion of Green Tea Extract. (I asked the dermatologist, Dr. Brett, that wrote about under-eye circles on the BB daily blog on 11/12 and he responded to my comment that this key ingredient could possibly work but he was also skeptical about the manufacturer's specific claims at the same time so keep that in mind. Still, it gets great reviews at Epinions and elsewhere. Google it if you're curious.)

Here are the ingredients that are in Teamine Eye Complex:
Purified Water, Stearic Acid, Glycosaminoglycans, Barium Sulfate, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Cetyl Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Polysilicone-11, Sodium Hyaluronate, Epilobium Anugstifolium (Willowherb) Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Cetearyl Alcohol, Ivy (Hedera Helix) Extract, Ceteareth-20, Glucosamine HCI, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Solanum Lycopersicum (Tomato) Extract, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Palmitoyl Pentapeptide 3, Phytonadione (Vitamin K), Butylene Glycol, Hordeum Vulgare (Barley) Extract, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Silica, Algae Extract, Arnica Montana Extract, Panthenol, Urea Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Polysorbate 20, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter Fruit, Carbomer, Titanium Dioxide, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Iron Oxides, Yeast Extracts, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Triethanolamine, Butylparaben.

As for it's anti-aging ingredients, go to the BB thread on p.5 of this forum that's called "Anti-Aging/Age Reversal/Fountain of Youth/Snake Oil Anyone?" If you look at what I wrote for the list of ingredients on #3 and 4, you'll see four of the important ingredients that are in Teamine Eye Complex. As for the cost, I haven't even used half of the jar yet and I've faithfully applied it twice a day so I can justify the price.

I also use Olay EyeLifting Serum throughout the day right over and under my foundation. It has a diffusing effect that mixes nicely with foundation. I also like Pond's age defEYE anti-circle anti-puff Eye Therapy on my eyelids. Both products have effective ingredients. I am following the advice of some experts when it comes to antioxidants, which is use a lot of them! The rationale is that you're likely to get some benefits if you use enough of them. (I learned this in two helpful books: "The Complete Beauty Bible" by Paula Begoun - see Chapter 2: Miracles, Frauds, & Facts. Also, "Secrets of the Beauty Insiders", a book that Sarah Bellum blogged about last spring - see Chapter 2: Skin Care Specifics)

Let us know if you find something else you like but I definitely wanted to tell you about Teamine Eye Complex if you're on a quest for a new eye cream. I'm so happy that the fine lines under my eyes are completely gone and in less than 3 months!
  • Thanks Karen for another WONDERFUL post!!! If you guys haven't seen how great Karen's skin looks, head on over to the Latest Make Up Purchase thread to look. It's gorgeous and I swear, she looks 20+ years younger than her real age.

I just bought RoC Retinol Correxion Eye Cream from CVS (literally, just bought, less than an hour ago.. during a "quick" tampon run), and I'm hoping it'll be a good cream. I don't have THAT many problems when it comes to my under eye, since I'm in my early 20s, but I believe in prevention. Plus I get to sleep now (not a luxury I had in college), and I drink tons of green tea and herbal tea (free at work!), I however, don't believe in spending more than $50 on 1/2 an ounce of product, so $19.99 seemed reasonable.

    The ingredients listed are:
Acrylates/C10/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Ascorbic Acid, BHA, BHT, Butylene Glycol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Extract, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Caprylyl Glycol, Carbomer, Cetearyl EthylHexanoate, Cetyl Alcohol, Cetyl Palmitate, Chlorhexidine Digluconate, Cooper Gluconate, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Euphorbia Cerifera Wax (Candelilla), Fragrance, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycine Soja Protein (Soybean), Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Isononyl Isononanoate, Isopropyl Myristate, Lactoferrin, Lactose, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Magnesium Aspartate, Methylparaben, Neoruscogenin, Panthenol, PEG 100 Stearate, PEG 8, Phenoxyethanol, Polysorbate 20, Propylparaben, Retinol, Ruscogenin, Sodium Hydroxide, Sorbitan Stearate, Steareth 2, Steareth 21, Stearyl Alcohol, Sucrose Cocoate, Tocopherol, Tromethamine, Vegetable Oil, Water, Xanthan Gum, Zinc Gluconate

Lots of goodies in there to keep my under eye area happy and moisturized. It's on sale on drugstore.com for $14 right now (just googled it and saw that lower price.. )

Oh yea.. Nadine from Jolie in NYC recommends it for people in their 20s.
  • Gosh, thanks, Taiwanesegurl. I actually got carded again last night along with my son!

I did take my pictures down earlier this month because I want to stay somewhat anonymous but I could certainly put a picture of my eyes back up.
  • Taiwanesegurl I used the Roc retinol correction serum for a while and it made me break-out
not sure why, I switched to Vichy Reti-C
I've been trying to find a good reitnol cream, tried the neutrogena but hated it
so far the Vichy reti-C hasn't porduced brake outs, has a nice texture and smell
as for wrinkles, I do not have much, it's more prevetion, but I used to have a line in my forehead
from all the sun worskipping, and now it's gone
CVS now carries a couple of good french lines that are not that expensive as department store ones, such as Vichy and La Roche Posay
maybe you can check them out next time
I picked up La Roche posay anthelios FX moisturizer, in lieu of my favorite estee lauder daywear plus
it's cheaper (29 bucks for 3.4 oz) and I heard really good reviews, let's see how it goes
my mom gets La Roche Posay products from her dermatologists back at home.
anyone has tried La Roche posey stuff before?
  • One of the La Roche posay eye treatments has consistently good reviews on MUA. It's also listed as a more reasonably priced alternative to Relastin Eye Silk so it's on my list for my next trip to CVS. I'll have to check out their other products too.
  • PurpleRules
    what's MUA?
  • Fitness Brain, I can ACTUALLY answer that...MUA is MakeupAlley a website for makeup reviews. See: http://www.makeupalley.com/
  • Thanks Judy!!
    will check it out
  • My latest skincare purchase was Jurlique's Purifying Cleansing Lotion. I can't comment on how well it works yet, because I've only used it twice so far...it was expensive, $40, so I'm not sure if I'll repurchase even if it works great. But I do really like it so far.

I also recently received a Jaqua Pink Buttercream Frosting Hand Cream...it smells DELICIOUS! I could almost eat it...mmm. It works really well too, I actually prefer it to my L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream.

In addition, I just bought Origins' No Puffery "cooling mask for puffy eyes"...which actually works okay, because my undereyes seem to be permanently puffy  But this makes it less puffy when it's really bad...and it's a noticeable difference.

I guess the last thing is Differin...I've decided to try using it every night to see if it'll help with this blemish problem I've developed in the past few months, haha.
  • I went to CVS to see if by any chance they sold the La Roche Posay eye treatment. Not only did they have it, the had a tester. Not only did they have a tester, they had samples. The woman who worked there (who was actually knowledgeable about their skincare lines) gave me a very nice La Roche Posey kit with four samples including the eye cream I was interested in. She gave a load of other samples too. She said they only had them at the 24 hour CVSes so if happen to be in one and are interested in trying any of their high-end lines (that's relative the other lines they carry; there's no La Mer in CVS) ask for samples.
This store also carries Boots cosmetics and skincare. They've got testers for everything so you can check out their colors. I think this is only in some CVSes. The 24 hour CVS that's near my house has the nice skincare lines but not the Boots.
I'm hoping this is a trend towards a more department store-like atmosphere. Target has testers for some of their cosmetics lines. Maybe CVS will do the same.

  • Purple
I also like the stuff from Vichy, which they carry on CVS now, the hand cream is great
    and the retinol-vitaminC treatment
see if you can get some Vichy samples
  • I recently bought Paula Begoun's 2% Beta Hydroxy Lotion.  I may have to cut back on using it daily as my skin seems a little redder after using it.  I used to use the 1% and perhaps I should have stuck with that!!

Gloria and Karen, I got a catalogue from DHC.  What is it that you two use from that line?
  • Judy: Gloria and I are both fans of their Deep Cleansing Oil. It removes all traces of makeup. You don't wet your face; you just rub it in and rinse it off with water. You immediately follow with a cleanser (I like Cetaphil - very nice & gentle!) so cleansing at night is a two step process. You don't dry your face between the two steps, though, so it's not time intensive. I just got my DHC catalogue in the mail and noticed it's on sale this month. They have a liberal return policy so keep that in mind, too.
I should add that I have purchased their Rich Moisture but I won't repurchase it. I'm trying to use it up on days when I don't plan to be outside at this point. It's a really nice moisturizer but I now prefer a moisturizer with a sunscreen in it, as per Paula Begoun's recommendation. I have also purchased another DHC best seller in the past, Velvet Skin Coat. It's a makeup primer with silicone in it that leaves your skin slippery-smooth. It's nice but I've suspected that it clogs pores and found out that primers with silicone can cause that problem so I don't use it anymore.
  • I just received an Estee Lauder Re-Creation day and night duo. I bought the trial sizes from a seller on Ebay that uses it and swears by it. The 1.7 oz day or night crea sells for $450.00, or you can buy the duo for a mere $900.00. I had a little extra money, and being the skin care junkie that Iam, I just had to know what a $450.00 face cream is feels like. So far, it is not hydrating enough for my dry skin on it's own. The ingredients are similar to Creme de Lamer - rare seaweed from Hawaii, purified sea water from a remote location, and a list of rare age fighting ingredients. The long term effects are supposed to be extraordinary. I will probably never see the long term effects because I'll never be able to afford to keep this up unless I win the lottery. I am looking forward to using the night creme tonight. So far, I must say that I'm not that impressed. My old stand by is the Patricia Wexler line, but I do like several Estee Lauder creams. I am currently trying to find the best creme for extremely dry skin. I've tried DHC and sent it back. Philosophy Hope in a Jar for dry skin is pretty good, as well as Decleor's dry skin products. I pretty much have to use night creme with an SPF creme to give me enough moisture. I like Estee Lauder'sRe-Nutirv Comfort Creme, but it has mineral oil which according to some is the work of the devil. There seems to be two sides to that debate. The "it's only good if it's 100% natural" crowd seems really offended by it, but I must say It really does moisturize well. I'm not sure where I stand on that debate. I'm lost in the world of complex skin care issues. If anyone has good suggestions for a fantastic dry skin product please speak up, but please don't lambast me for using the evil mineral oil products. I get enough greif from my 20 year old son already.
  • I've got very dry skin and here's what I use: Clinique Continuous Rescue Antioxidant Moisturizer in the morning ("dry to very dry" in the winter, "dry combination" in the summer). It doesn't have sunscreen so I use Neutrogenia dry touch sunscreen. At night I use a retin-A Cream that I get from a local salon. It's moisterizing enough for the summer but in the winter I use Nivea Creme on top of it. So basically I'm coating myself with mineral oil twice a day and nothing horrible has happened yet.
  • I was suffering from really dry skin a week ago.and needed help fast.  I purchased "Caudalie Cream-Mask Face and Eyes" at Bath & Body Works with gift cards. It cost $40 a tube so it's pricey but WOW! It worked wonders for my skin in just a few days. It's marketed as a mask but the instructions say you can also use it lightly as a moisturizer for very dry skin so that's what I did. You can read its list of ingredients at their website:
    http://www.caudalie-usa.com/site/page/pg389-de224-pr512-pn_Moisturizing_Cream_Mask_Face_and_Eyes.html

  • Well, I just want to add to my post from yesterday about the Estee Lauder Re-Creation that costs as much as a car payment(really nice car, that is). I got the trial sizes off Ebay, and was not that impressed with the day cream because of lack of moisture, but I had not tried the night cream when I wrote the post. I tried it last night, and my skin was dry as a bone an hour later like I just used a serum by itself or something. I'm sorry, but if your charging $450.00 per jar for face creme, it better be moisturizing. If should feel like the most luxurious creme in the world, but it doesn't. Oh well...I let my couriosity get the better of me, so I'm out fifty bucks. Thanks to Purple Rules and Karen for the suggestions for dry skin products. QVC used to carry Caudalie, but I never tried it. Now that i know they carry it at Bath & Body Works I might try it. I'm going to try to get samples of the Clinique Continuous Rescue , too. I wonder if Clinique accepts returns if you don't like the product? My makeup has a broad spectrum sunscreen, so I'm o.k . in that regard.
  • jrow: You should be able to take a Clinique product back without a problem. The department store brands stand behind what they sell and will accept a return, without questions.
Good luck on your mission to find what you need. Definitely let us all know what you end up with and like!
  • Stores like Blue Mercury and Sephora are generous with samples if you ask so you can try it out for a couple of nights. Sephora also accepts returns with no questions asked. And they sell Clinique.
  • Clinique's Moisture Surge Extra is pretty good.  I was never impressed with Clinique's products, but since I had a sample laying around, I tried it and loved it.
NARS also has this Aqua Gel Hydrator that's sold as a mask.  You can put just a little tiny amount on, spread it all around, and it feels really really nice.
As for your concern with mineral oil, well.. most of us are disciples of the Brains, so we know there's nothing wrong with mineral oil.
