  • I like Clinique moisture surge as well
I used to put it at night after my retinol, but I've been living out of a clinique sample for night for the last 2 months

  • So after careful consideration I have decided to purchase Benefit's You Rebel tinted moisturizer.  It is not the best for covering marks or scars on my face, but it works for me because it brightens my skin.  I had a free sample of it and the MA was generous when she gave it to me.  I used it on and off for a week or so before MLK Weekend and that Monday I started to get sick.  One of the joys of being a nanny is all of the germs the little tykes can spread.  It doesn't help when theysneeze right in your face.  But I digress...I am still getting over this awful cold, but all last week I would just put that on in the morning before work and I sisn't look like death...that's a good thing!  It was and is easier than my Bare Escentuals (I can't believe I just said that...)  oh well, it worked and now I am addicted...yay!
  • O.K. - My new product of the day that I am absolutely in love with is Elizabeth Arden Prevage Treatment. OMG is it wonderful. I got a sample included in with a product from Nordstrom, and boy an I glad I did. It's key ingredient is 1% Idebenone. It won the Allure 2006 best beauty award, and too many other awards to list. It is the most silky, moisturizing dream of a creme. It's to be used as serum would be under moisturizer, but it's much cremier than the average serum, and unbelievably moisturizing. I've found a bunch on Ebay, which is where I'll buy it, because 1.7oz is $150.00 at retail. It's going for about $60.00 on Ebay buy it now, but there are some auctions going on much cheaper. It's main function is as an anti-oxidant. It's supposed to be better than any other anti-oxidant out there including Co-Q10. it's made by Arden and Allergan (the makers of Botox). I am not easily impressed, but I'm just giddy over this product. I MUST HAVE IT! Has anyone else tried it, and if so, what did you think?

Oh, I forgot to thank everyone for the dry skin suggestions, and info about store returns. I'm going to get some Clinique samples if I can. Off I go to work out and take a shower. If my husband's not hogging the computer, I'll be back tonight.
  • Hi jrow
what's your experience on ebay? aren't you afraid you'll get an adulterated product? I am always a litlle skeptic when ebay price is too much cheaper than retail
I had a bad experience with some Nike shoes, that turned out to be a cheap fake

On a different note, has anyone tried the Olay definity line? I am considering trying one of their products, since I udes to be a sun worshipper. Just for moisturizer at night, since may day mositurizer is now La Roche Posay AntheliosFX (it is great, highly recomend it), but I am afraid it will not go well with my nightly retinol
    any thoughts?

  • My latest skincare purchase was Prevense Day Moisturizer. It was cheap as hell, between 6 and 7 bucks but it i really good, the cream is very thick and a little difficult to apply, but it is absorbed quikly and really make the skin feel more moist almost immediately. It is also presented in a nice looking, delicate container and really look, feel and work like a much more expensive product. I am real happy whit it.
  • I am in love with Neutrogena's Rapid Clear line right now. My skin is always breaking out, but this line seems to be helping a lot. I don't have severe acne, but I think I border on moderate on bad days. Today my skin looks great and I think it's the addition of the daily treatment pads that's making a difference. Before I was only using the spot gel.
However, I imagine that a lot of people would hate the stuff because there is so much alcohol in it. In fact, I hold my breath for as long as I can after swiping the pad over my face to try to avoid breathing in the fumes. But it soaks up all that oil and makes my skin look great.
  • Funny you should mention Clinique.  When I was at Sephora last weekend I considered buying the classic moisturizer (yellow stuff) that i used for YEARS.  I think they have now broadened their range of this line but it was good then and seems still to be a favorite so it must STILL WORK.
I have started using my Paula Begoun Super Anti-Oxident Concentrate along with my Neutrogena Dry-Block Sunscreen as a primer and like the results.  I have also started using it by itself at night prior to putting on my moisturizer rather than mixing it with my night moisturizer.  That too seems to have calmed down my redness a bit.
  • Speaking of Clinique, pursebuzz.com posted this: http://pursebuzz.com/?p=759
Cool GWP that you choose to fit your needs AND free shipping code.
  • Hi Fitness Brain - I buy and sell all the time on Ebay. Like a lot of sellers, I have a store. Feedback is the key. You can check a seller's feedback to see if they are reputable sellers. The majority of seller are. I've never gotten a product that wasn't sealed. Everything I've purchased has been authenic. Ebay polices pretty well, too. If they get complaints, they investigate and shut down fly--by-night operations. You just have to be carefull to check out the seller, and carefully read thier policies on shipping, returns, etc., so you can make an informed purchase. Today I received some Estee Lauder repair concentrate that I use. It was new and sealed. Also, I always insure my packages in case something happens beyond the seller's control with shipping problems. I have saved a ton of money buying on Ebay, and I have also made a lot of money. I have repeat customer because I deliver exactly what is described, and provide good customer service. It's a great way to make extra money from home if you can get products that allow for a decent profit margin. And, I've made a lot of friends. Take care...
  • I had my Laura Mercier makeover last Saturday (what fun!) and was really impressed with their Purifying Oil cleanser. You apply two pumpfuls to dry skin. It removes all of your makeup. ALL of it. Even eye makeup. Then you wet you hands and it lathers up a bit and rinses clean. Has anyone else tried one of these cleansers? I know Shu Eumora makes one.
There's some questionable science involved. it contains 'deep sea water", which allegedly "enhances metabolic reaction within the skin and helps cell renewal." There's also something called "Perfecting water", which seems to be basically water (not just any water, dee sea water!) and glycerin, which you put on dry skin before you moisterize. Is it possible that this stuff will make a difference when it's applied under a moisterizer? It's lighter than a serum and is applied like a toner. It would be nice to get more oomph from your moisturizer without adding another layer of grease.
So back to the cleanser... Love it. It removes all my makeup, rinses clean and leaves my dry skin feeling great. It would be nice if it were cheaper but you can't have everything.

  • DHC also makes an oil cleaner, actually 2. The Deep Cleansing Oil is one of their best sellers, and is used like your Laura Mercier oil. I've been using it for over a year, and have given it as Christmas gifts the last two Christmases. My daughter and mother-in law both complained when they ran out. The 6.7 oz bottle sells for $24.00, but usually goes on sale for $20.00 just before Christmas, so I stock up on it.

DHC also sells Soft Touch Cleansing Oil that you can use in the shower. Its nice for washing your face in the morning, but doesn't get the make-up off as well as the Deep Cleansing Oil. Its just $14.00 for the 5 oz bottle. Both of them leave your face nice and soft.
  • Anne's right: The Laura Mercier product sounds identical to DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, an "I can't live without it" product for me that I've always raved about here on the forum. It is the absolute best thing I've found to get all my make-up off.
I'm into the two-step cleansing process so I always follow it up with Cetaphil Cleanser. I found that if I didn't use the DHC product first, I could see and feel make-up on my face even after I thought I had washed everything off.
The proof is if you use an exfoliating pad of some sort (e.g. Neutrogena's Wave or Olay's Daily Cleansing Cloths) after your cleanser. If you've washed your face with your cleanser but still get traces of make-up on the exfoliating pad or cloth, you're not getting everything off. And it doesn't seem to matter what I use in the way of foundation or blush: there are always traces of it left if I skip the DHC product first.
It's a "holy grail" product for me, that's for sure.
  • ^Agree.  The thing is, the LM product uses too much fluff and puff to advertise their products, which always turns me off.  Plus it's quite pricey.
I just bought DHC's Deep Cleansing Oil for my mom today and she loves it already.  I actually sat in the infamous 405 traffic, which basically means it takes me a bit over an hour to travel less than 20 miles today just to get this for my mom.  She was out of MAC's green gel cleanser I had her try, and I thought hey, she's a bit older, the gel cleanser dries out her skin, it's time to get her hooked on DHC's Deep Cleansing Oil.
My mom has dry skin, so she just does a 1-step cleanse routine.  I'm like Karen, and use another cleanser afterwards.
Oh yea.. DHC's only counter in the world (or at least outside of Japan) is right by my mom's house.  Yet I had to make sure that she received the right products, I went home in prime time traffic just to buy it.  It's that great of a product.
  • Hey TG,
You have oily skin, right? I've heard a lot about the DHC cleansing oil lately, but thought it wouldn't be a good idea for my oily, acne prone skin. How do you find it for you? Right now I'm only using Cetaphil cleanser and I can't stand it! I'm participating in a clinical trial for an acne medication, so I'm not allowed to use any acne products AT ALL while I'm in the wash out phase (2 weeks of no anti-acne stuff before they give me the meds!). I'm used to much stronger products and I need to wash my face at least two times with the Cetaphil to get my makeup off. Maybe using something like the DHC would be helpful.
Interestingly enough, I've been off anti-acne meds of any kind for 15 days now (I have my day 0 appt tomorrow) and my skin is neither better nor worse than when I was using the acne meds. Hmmmm...
  • Taiwanesegurl:  you are a good daughter!  My sister graduated from college in San Diego and her ceremony was at the horse track and it was 15 minutes from her house and it took us over an hour to get there on the 5!
  • Karen,

Have you tried DHC's Q10 facial film soap yet? It is great when traveling. Each film is individually wrapped, and they are super slim. They work great! You get put one in your hand and wet it. It turns into a very nice lather. It was another item I gave as Christmas gifts. My daughter is so funny. She tears the sheet in half, then sticks them to each side of her face as she gets into the shower. Another gift she complains about when she runs out.
  • pas
It works great to remove every single particle of dirt or make up off my face.  I do follow up with either Pure Soap or Mild Soap to get that really clean and crisp feel.  Mild soap is what it is.. just a mild soap, so I'm sure you can still use it while on your acne clinical trial medication.  Pure soap is aimed at people with acne, but I'm not sure about the ingredients in it, so you might still be able to use it.
And yea.. I love my mommy.
  • Anne: Interesting. I have seen the info in the DHC catalogue but wasn't sure what to make of it. Do you use that after their cleansing oil? Maybe I can pick it as one of my free samples next time. Sure wish I had gotten in on their sale for the cleansing oil a few months ago. DUMB!
pas71: DHC advertises its cleansing oil as appropriate for all complexions, even those prone to acne. I'm fairly certain that because it's predominantly olive oil, it doesn't trigger acne.
  • Hi Karen,

If you have make-up on, I would start with the cleansing oil. It just does such a great job at cleaning off make-up. The film does leave your skin feeling great. I save it for when I travel, but my daughter used it every day in the shower.
  • Thanks for the tips TG and Karen! Unfortunately, I had my appointment with the skin research center this morning and they gave me Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer and I'm not allowed to use anything else on my face for the next 12 weeks! (I can wear makeup, though). Grrr...
And, on top of that, I put some of the "medication" on my face today... I think I got the placebo. Supposedly this medication usually causes tingling when you put it on, especially in the beginning. I had nothing. Of course, my skin isn't easily irritated, but there was no reaction whatsoever. I guess I'll have to wait and see how the next 12 weeks go!
I'll definitely look into that DHC cleansing oil after my ordeal!
  • So you can wear makeup but you can't use makeup removers? That's not good. There's no way Cetaphil is going to remove eye makeup. The Neutrogena Healthy Volume mascara doesn't come off entirely with water but you can get most of it off and then use the Cetaphil to get the rest off. You can use a powder eyeshadow with saline for a liner and that will come off easier then a real eye liner. But basically it sounds like it's going to be a long 12 weeks. I hope you didn't get the placebo and that you see some benefits when all is said and done.
  • Hi
have you tried comodynes? I used ot gte very irritated with make-up removers. This towelletes are really gentle and do the job, plus they are great for travelling.        You can get them at  Trader Joes' for like 3 bucks, that's all I use now to remove make-up
Talking about cleanser's, I wne to Sephora meaning to try the acne starter kit, but ended up buying Bliss Clog-dissolving cleansing milk, and I love it!!  It's been a week and my skin has already improved, and It is just before that time of the month. I am still using my preventive dose of bonzoyl perozide in my chin and forehead once  a day, but it still better, and it feels so good. Highly recommend it, howvere I am not sure If I will regulraly pay 28 bucks for a cleanser, I had a gift card

  • Thanks to Karen I have been using the samples that I got of the DHC cleansing oil and I must say that I am impressed.  Not crazy about the smell but it sure does the job.  I use a mild low alcohol (says non-alcoholic but I don't think so) toner afterwards...does anyone know if that is counterproductive with the cleansing oil?
FB, I have seen the Comodynes at Trader Joe's...do you use it as a cleanser or prior to cleansing.
Speaking of cleansers, I made the mistake of getting Olay's Hydrate and Cleanse Antioxident Lathering Face Wash.  I  have used to use their other creamy cleansers and have liked them because I have sensitive skin but this doesn't lather, really cleanse, or hydrate much.

  • Purple, the Cetaphil is actually working ok to get my makeup off, as long as I wash my face 2-3 times. Luckily, I don't really have any dryness to worry about. But I can't wait to try the DHC oil when I'm done!
  • Judy, I use the comodynes as cleanser, although if you have a lot of make-up on you may need to cleanse afterwards too I guess, they are very gentle
I went yetsreday to sephora and got a couple of things I wanted to try, one is the dry shampoo from oscar blandi, since I am trying to wash less often to preserve my color, and I want to see if it's any different than babypowder, although I am not at all convinced of the whole idea of doing that, meaning not washing your hair
we'll see, I also got benefit galactic shield to cover my pimples, the color macthes my skin very well and the texture is good for covering, I hope it won't dry out my skin too much

  • YES!!  Another follower of the DHC Cleansing Oil!!!  WOOHOOOO!!
    *high 5 Karen and Anne*
I just recently re-purchased Boots No. 7's 4-in-1 wipe, and it's awesome.  I tried the MAC version at the store before, and it felt a tad irritating.  I totally broke out using the Boots Botanics version.  It's a tad pricey at around $10, but it's awesome.
These wipes are great to keep at hand for eye make up application.  Smudged your line a bit?  Got mascara where you don't want it?  Wipe it off with a wipe.
And this version is less drying than other brands.  I do use these wipes to remove my make up, and go to sleep.  No moisturizing, nothing.  Just wipe everything off and voila, I'm done.

  • tawainesegirl, you may want to try the comodynes. It sounds very similar to what you describe, but it costs 1/3 less
they are really nice and gentle, and inexpensive, if go to Trader Joe's give them a try
  • Ok, so I got the go-ahead from the DR this morning to use a makeup-remover. Thank goodness. I want to get one today, so what would you guys recommend that I can find in a CVS? I think I'll order the DHC, too, but I need something TONIGHT because I can't stand washing my face 3-4 times every night.
  • Boots 4-in-1 wipes!!  =D
  • Let's see, I bought a Lancome Primer for the first time as I now wear very recently Annyake Liquid SFP 8 foundation(which I mix /dilute with moisturizer) apply with a new foundation brush by Laura Mercier,(don't need a tinted moisturizer as it's the same thing?I read that in Allure), Mac Missy lip gloss(doesn't stay on very long and really , the colour is not for me)
I would love to buy and try this article I read about Sleep and Peel by Filorga(I'm lazy) it does the work while you sleep apparently and when I went on the site, sent an email, the reply was "Email not working" or something.I'm not giving up so I'll call Paris (it's a lab).If anyone's interested I'll post my results.
  • I had an Ulta coupon and I was feeling in need of some self-pampering so I decided to try some of the Ulta body products...since it was buy 2 get one free I bought Citrus Cream Body Lotion, Mandarin Mimosa Moisturizing Body Wash, and Clean Scent Body Spray.  Oh yes, and my old stand-by Neutrogena Ultra-Sheer Sunscreen which was buy 1 get the 2nd at 50% off.
  • I just bought the VitaK for under eye circles. After just using it twice, my circles do appear a bit lighter. I also got Kiss My Face Eyewitness eye repair cream. It got great reviews on MUA. Its to soon to say how well it works.

Unfortunately, we do not have any CVS stores, and Rite Aid doesn't have samples. We don't have Ulta stores either. Is it a department store, or something like a Rite Aid?
  • Ulta is a hybrid of sorts...part salon, part cosmetics store, and part specialty beauty supply store.  Lots of  salon brands of shampoo, etc and a good selection of perfumes.  It carries lots of the brands you would see at a drug store or Target but they have specials ALL THE TIME and they have a loyalty card which gives you a freebie every 3 months.  They also will take manufacturers coupons which is a plus.
They carry Stila, Bare Escentials, Murad, and some other prestige brands as well as their own branded stuff like Sephora does.
I often go in with one of their $3/off coupons and walk out empty handed because I can't find anything much.  There is virtually NO customer service unless they are having a demo by someone from a cosmetic company.  The only customer service you usually get is a "Welcome to Ulta!  Here's a basket".
If you want Olay or Neutrogena products or standard body moisturizers you are better off at Target where the selection is better.  However, if you like Revlon they have the full range of products.
    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you Judy! I've seen Ulta mentioned several times, and never knew what kind of store it was. Sounds similar to a Sephora. Thankfully we do have Sephora stores!
  • Ulta also carries Max Factor, which is getting increasingly difficult to find.
Judy, where do you get the $3 off coupons? They carry CND, China Glaze, OPI and Essie nail polish. They also carry the full line of Sally Hansen nail polishes, including the limited edition Salon line colors so it's heaven for a nail polish junkie.
  • P.R.,

Have you seen the absolutely gorgeous purple nail polish that Butter London has. Its called Prince's Plums. They have a second purple thats a little lighter called HRH. Butter polishes are Big 3 Free too. http://www.butterlondon.com/lacquers/choose/72
  • I've never tried Butter London polishes but I've heard good things about them. The nail boards at MUA are all atwitter about one of their new colors. None of the salons near me carry them so I'd have to order them on-line, which is always risky; the colors can be very, very different then they appear on your monitor. Sadly, it looks like Prince's Plums has been discontinued. I couldn't find it on their site anywhere.  That's a shame because I'd buy any nailpolish with plum in the name site unseen. I may order one of their sets just to try it out.
  • P.R.  If you join Ulta's loyalty program you occasionally get a coupon in the mail.  Otherwise they have them in the Sunday newspaper or (more often) amidst the local circulars you get in your mail box during the week.  Or at least we get them...mostly from grocery stores or KFC.
  • P.R.

Prince's Plums is still listed in the colors. Here is the site. http://www.butterlondon.com/lacquers/choose/72 If Prince's Plums doesn't show as the color on the left, it is in the second row, 8th from the right. I think it is absolutely gorgeous!
  • OK I just went out and purchased Cetaphil daily facial cleanser and I think I am liking it...we'll see though.  Today it seems a little drying on my face, but my face could be messed up from thinking I can run in 35 degree windy conditions....gross.
I have also been combining my Oil of Olay face lotion with my tinted moisturizer because I think it is a little dark for my complexion...turns out now Benefit has a new tinted moisturizer called You Rebel Lite ( I hate things spelled that way...but then again who is to say that 'light' really is the correct way to spell it...thats the Linguist in me...it's a constant battle...but I digress) which is a lighter version and probably more appropriate for my  complexion.  Anyway, I really do like mixing the two it lightens it up a bit and seems to go on more easily.
  • Cate: It might be the weather rather than the Cetaphil. Dermatogists recommend its use for people whose skin is painfully dry as a result of harsh acne treatments like Accutane or retinoid therapy.
I'm also loving this tip of mixing moisturizer with foundations or tinted moisturizers! I think it was Purple Rules who told us about it.
    Thanks, Purple! GREAT TIP!!!

  • My skin is so dry, I always moisturize before applying foundation. I do like to mix my foundation with Boots illuminating lotion. It leaves a nice glow to your face. I then use straight foundation to any areas that need the extra coverage.

After using VitaK under my eyes for a week, I am disappointed. The dark circles are as dark as ever. the Kiss My Face Eye Repair is a good moisturizer, but didn't do anything for puffiness or fine lines. I'll keep searching. I ordered Medical University Face Lift after reading good reviews of it on Makeupalley, so I'll see if its any good.
  • Anne: I really like Teamine Eye Complex for under my eyes but please let us know about the product you've ordered, too!
  • I'll try Teamine Eye Complex next if the Medical University doesn't work. I debated between the two, but Medical University was cheaper ($30.00) and people raved about the quick results.
  • Ditto on mixing the foundation with my moisturizing sunscreen...it is a bit wasteful but it does give nice and even coverage.  Thanks PR for the excellent tip off.
Anne, I thought I had read about all the wrinkle creams there are...what is the Medical University Face Lift all about and where did you hear about it?

  • Hi Judy,

I read about it on Makeupalley. Here are tow of the reviews.

I had seen this product at CVS and Walgreens some time ago but had passed it by because over the years I have spent too much money on too many products that promised a lot and delivered little. After seeing the reviews for this product I decided to give it a try (hope springs eternal). Without hesitation and without reservation I can state that this product is absolutely amazing!! Even though I am really, really old (at least I have been feeling that way for a while), I only have wrinkles/crepiness around my eyes and some fine lines above the lips, so I purchased it to use in those areas. As others have said, I saw a difference immediately, and the results have gotten even better each time I have used it. The lines and crepiness have diminished greatly on my lids and under my eyes. What I have also found is that my upper lids have become so much firmer I find it hard to believe. I have too much skin on the upper lids, and like everything else, it was giving way to gravity. It was getting more difficult all the time to apply eyeshadow, and my eyes just looked old. While nothing is said on the box about any firming effects, the firming I have experienced has made my eyes look so much younger and more wide awake. When I use it around my lips, my lipline is much firmer and more defined, and the fine lines above my lips are greatly diminished. Moisturizer and/or eye cream can be used over this product if it's not moisturizing enough by itself. Makeup goes on beautifully over it. This is one of the very few products I have ever used that I would pay 10 times as much for (retails for $29.99). It really does deliver amazing results. It's certainly worth a try since CVS and Walgreens take returns if it doesn't work as well for you. It's also available at many other locations (see the University Medical web site for other retailer locations). This is definitely one of those run don't walk products.

I agree with the other reviewers - this stuff really works! I too am a makeup addict - I have filled landfills all over California with products that did not deliver on their promises . . . until now. At Walgreens the display caught my eye and for a trial size at $5.99, I too thought why not? I took it home, applied it and my lines seemed to almost disappear, something I thought couldn't be acheived short of a surgeon's knife. Ladies - this will take years off your face - try it!

It seams like it either works for you, or doesn't. The majority say they see results very quickly. This is the web site if you want to check out the other reviews.

I hope to receive mine early this week and will let you know what I think of it. Keep your fingers crossed that it lives up to its reputation!

    P.S.

Sorry for all the type O's. I'm a terrible typist. :(
  • Thanks, Anne, for the lowdown.
I assumed it was some extremely high priced potion like Strivectin which I dared a friend to try because I couldn't afford it and she said it was indeed a waste of money.
  • Is it really called Madical University?
what is it supposed to do? it seems like is nto a moisturizer right?
  • Sorry for the length of this, but this sis what drugstore.com says about it.
