Comes from an interesting article I read on the science behind beauty or perception of beauty.
Men and women have different "contrasts" to the features of their faces, which why makeup makes women (and men!)
look more feminine.
Interesting. I know for myself if I had to choose one makeup item to wear, it would be reasonably dark lipstick. This has been my mainstay for makeup since my teens. I have pretty dark lips naturally, so I need to wear a deeper shade to enhance them. I tend to choose a lipstick with tones similar to my natural tones but darker. I like eyeliner, too, but it's a pain to apply. I also think excessively dark foundation on women is very unattractive (which fits with the contrast = beauty for females concept, but could also be because excessively dark foundation is simply unnatural looking).
