Setting wet hair in rollers: Does it damage hair?
  • Hi all,

I have stick straight hair, and I like wearing it set in curls--I know that curling irons and hot rollers cause heat damage and try to avoid these whenever I can. Instead I roll wet hair into sponge rollers or in pin-curls, and when it dries--voila! Curls without heat. But my question is, am I still causing damage by forcing hair to dry in a certain structure? Am I better off using heat appliances?
  • Hi Pammue

I am only a forum member here, but from what little I know about it I don't think you are damaging your hair by setting it in pin curls or with sponge rollers. Heat appliances are damaging to hair. Letting it air dry, which you are doing by setting your hair the way you are setting it, is far less damaging.
  • A wet set properly done, should not damage your hair and in fact is a great way to give you hair a break from heat styling. Also, if you get Hot Rollers with the 'Flocked' or Silicone surface they should minimize damage and maximize shine.
