So my skin's been turning kind of an unnatural white since I've been using a sunscreen that seems to block almost all the rays. I thought I'd try a sunless tanner to see if it gave me a more natural color. Because I'm a novice, I diluted it greatly in a regular moisturizer (and used a product recommended for first time users). I don't like the color much (too dark and too golden, in spite of dilution), and on top of that, I think it irritates my skin--anyone heard of that? Anyway, I don't think I'll be a repeat user, but it's fun to experiment. I guess I'll just be using bronzer from now on (as I had before) to try to achieve a less ashen white look on the face. Or maybe down the line I'll try a different sunless tanner product.
I have never used sunless tanning product that produces a "natural" looking color. It's always just a little too orange. I am curious to know what product you used? There are some "build a tan" products that are supposed to get gradually darker the more you apply (Neutrogena Build-A-Tan). I love the concept of sunless tanners but they are too much work for me!
I got a sample from Sephora of the Clarins one that is meant for first-time users. Again, though, I diluted it with a lot of plain moisturizer. Note: I didn't buy it (lol). In addition to being a sucker for pricey stuff, the reason I went to Sephora is so I could actually talk to a person for a product recommendation. But I have heard that there's a Jergens buildable one that's more subtle, so if I ever try again, that--or as you say the Neutrogena or similar--may be the way to go.
The Jergens build-able one works really well. Our daughter uses it in the summer sometimes. For reference she has super pale (as in alabaster) skin and the results are very natural looking.
i used a 'natural' looking sunless tanner, the one and only that looked not orange. it's st moriz brand, a cheap knock off St Tropez here in UK and it's amazing. it also helps a lot with my KP. i have heard that some people with KP notice the same with sunless tanners, so maybe there is something there sarahf, maybe that aspect is irritating your skin. also what kind of tanner did you use? some of them can't be really diluted i think.
with bronzers i have noticed that my sunscreen and bronzer form a paste in a few hours in the sun and crease in my neck creases... it looks awful, this is making me use sunless tanner now
Hi all,
Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking I will try Jergens next or maybe St. Moritz if I can find it. I've been reading some reviews of the Jergens and it does sound like it can be customized by how often you use it to be ultra-subtle (which is what I'm going for). Ally--as far as the kind I used, I'm not sure what type it is. It's clarins liquid bronze self tanning (called a liquid but actually looks more like a milk). I had just read that you can dilute them so I didn't know there were types that you couldn't do that with. It didn't come out uneven, but wasn't subtle either. I actually am liking the look of it more at day 3.
Thanks, Sarah
I haven't tried yet. I think for now I'm going to go with my natural chalk white look because it's less work to maintain. I use a powder bronzer and haven't had too many problems with it pooling or running, although I'm probably not fooling anyone that it's my natural color either. But down the line, I want to try one of the add-a-tan products as you say.
