Tell Us Your Latest Make-Up Purchase
  • Yep!
LOL...I admit to walking into the bathroom after I read about this last night and manipulating my upper lip, both up & forward, to see if I could mimic the effect.  Sure enough, it got larger and rippled!
  • Finally I found it....... A friend recently told me about everyday lip gloss. So I went to their site www.everydaylipgloss.com and ordered a few tubes. They have a very cool and touching story, but an even better product. After trying it, I just knew I had to help them spread the word. It is an all natural gloss that is 100% cruelty free. It comes in a neat chap stick like tube so there is no mess applying it. It feels great on my lips and the colors look fantastic. I have been wearing it on its own, but it looks great over my lipstick too.

And by the way, it's only $5.00!! Thank God I no longer need to spend $20-$30 per gloss like I was.
  • If any of you are in the market for a new eye primer, get thee to Sephora. Too Faced Shadow Insurance is one of their deluxe samples. Blogdorf Goodman blogged about this a while ago and said basically "This stuff is great! Why don't the MUAers all love it?" and a bunch of MUAers commented that it's just as popular as UDPP. It works just as well and it comes in a tube. You've got to be a Beauty Insider and you have to spend $100 but if due for a free sample or close to the limit go buy yourself a new brush or some mascara and pick up the sample. You could also just buy the eye primer but it's more fun getting something you actually want for free. I used it this morning; so far, so good but I'm sitting at work in an air conditioned building.
  • ^My sister got it as part of a Too Faced kit from Nordie's Anniversary Beauty Exclusive Sale.. I sooo wanted to try it since the items were shipped to me first, but it was her birthday, so I didn't want to try her bday present to herself before she did.. =P

Bought a lip balm from caudalie for me today, as well as a scalp benefit balancing shampoo from aveda.. aveda's sale's technique is GREAT.. they sit you down, give you a massage, and tell you about their products.. then they have you smell it when ur super relaxed, making u love the product more..
i also bought Aveda's Scalp Remedy Dandruff Solution for my sister.. my mom was with me, and when i explained what it was, she's like, "ur sister should use it".. so bought it as a bday present..
then i bought their control paste for my mom because she liked the smell..
AND.. I picked up an application from Sephora..
  • I just received two new eye shadows from MAC. I ordered Omega, a matte taupe, and Carbon, a matte black. Instead of getting Carbon, they sent me Electric Eel. Do you remember Mimi on Drew Cary? I think this is the color eye shadow she wore. I called Mac, and they are sending me the correct color by 2nd day delivery. They told me to keep Electric Eel, so all I need is padding, a frumpy dress, and a short curly blond wig, and I'll be all set for Holloween.
  • Oooh it's not THAT bad!!  I think it can look very pretty as a bold eyeliner, no??
Just don't apply it as heavy as Mimi!
  • You're right Gloria. I did use it as a liner yesterday, and it's not bad in very small doses. You do have to admit though that it is very close to the color Mimi wore.
  • ^oh yea.. yesterday when I was googling to see the exact color of it, i came across a tutorial on youtube where the girl uses Electric Eel, along with a yellow color, to create a very colorful eye.. it was like, wow, Mimi's look updated!
the way she (the youtube girl, not Mimi) did it was very artistic though..
  • Is this the one Gloria?

If it is, it is an awful lot of work to end up with a kind of scary look. It brings to mind the old Avon sales lady joke. JMHO

    or this one?

Either one, if I wore it like that, I think someone would want to lock me up as a crazy person. I very young person might get away with it, but not a 50 yr old.
  • I can't wear blue at all but I've had suprisingly good results with fuschia. It's a good color for me; it makes my skin look really white (yes, I consider that a good thing) so I played around and came up with some good looks. It's definitely not a work look. Evenings only.
  • I just went to Sephora yesterday with my girlfriend and ended up buying Caudilie lip treatment...Ithink Anonymousblonde and Karen had recommended it to me  months and months ago.  Love Love LOVE it!  My lips feel so great!  And almost bought Daisy by Marc Jacobs..but I want to see if my husband likes it too...I like him to like how I smell :)
  • Calvin Trillin once wrote that there are two stages in life -- the stage at which you're too young to do what you really want and the stage at which you're too old to do what you really want. What I'd give to have my 18 year old complexion again and to be able wear no makeup and still look great. But when I was 18, all I wanted to do was cover it up with as much makeup as I could get away with.
  • I just got the Bare Escentuals Face Fashion kit and I love it! It has two eyeshadows, a powder eyeliner (all in purple), a blush, and a lipgloss. I've seen it online before and it never interested me, but I just saw it in person in Ulta and it looked great. I just tried it on and I love it.  http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P218909&categoryId=C16510&shouldPaginate=true
  • I have no idea how my Calvin Trillin quote/observation about young women and makeup post wound up here. Okay, I know exactly how it wound up here-- I put it here because I wasn't paying attention. Oops.
I went to Sephora looking for the new Sephora by OPI nail polish in Metro Chic. Unsurprisingly, they didn't have it; apparently this is the "it" nail polish for fall. If anyone sees it in their local Sephora, grab it; you can sell it for a fortune onEbay. To console myself, I bought two (two!) NARS lip glosses. I got Orgasm and Female Trouble. I also bought an EmphasEYEs eye pencil by Tarte in black. This is a great pencil for putting a line right down at the lash line for a really natural look. It makes your lashes look thicker and darker without making it look like you're wearing eye liner.
I also went to the outlets and got a bunch of Shu Eumera and Lancome eye shadows and a Lancome blush on the 2 for $12 table.
I checked out a new Ulta and they had Paula Dorf. I got a new lipstick. It's very nice and long wearing but a bit drying. (All the long wearing ones seem to be drying.) I like Paula Dorf but it's hard to find. Her colors are all very soft and natural; sort of like Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown before they discovered shimmer.

  • I haven't splurged on anything lately, but I will soon because.....
I got a part time seasonal position at Sephora!!!
It totally wasn't planned.  I was there 1 day with my mom because she's NEVER been to a Sephora store.  One of the employee, who turned out to be the assistant manager, asked if we needed any help.  I cheerfully replied, "oh no!  I'm totally good.  I know this store so well I could practically work here!"
He laughed, and asked if I would like an application to really work there, and I was in a good mood so I said, "sure!"  The manager of the store came by to say hi, so I thought, wow, I must of made an impression, I should apply.
I submitted the application, went through the interview process, and got hired!  What helped?  The immense amount of knowledge I have from reading blogs like the BBs!  I know so much more about skincare than the average shopper, and having these online discussions about beauty translated effortlessly into real life conversations during the interviews.  So thank you Brains!!!
I just completed the orientation and left with some goodies.  I got a NARS lipstick in Masai, which is a sheer shimmery plum, a Laura Mercier in Plum Berry, a Cargo Eyeshadow Duo in Arizona, which contains a gold taupe and a dark purple that are both sheer but with buildable pigments, a facial wash by Cosmedicine, and a deluxe sized sample of Clinique's Repairwear Intensive Eyecream.
I can't WAIT to start working there.  The store I'm in is actually surrounded by a lot of finance/consulting firms, so a lot of our clients are probably really stressed out right now.  We all know shopping and getting that cute new shade of lipstick/gloss is such a great stress reliever, so being there and being able to help them lift their spirits will make me feel fulfilled.

Oh yea.. I do have to get a new Caudalie lip balm.  My husband needed some lip balm, but I was sleeping, so I told him to get it from my bag.  I have 2 lip balms in my bag, the Caudalie one, and a Softlip one.  He saw the Caudalie one first, tried it, and liked it so much he took it from me!  And this is a man who used soap to wash his face for the longest time (now he uses Nivea)!  Oh well, there's that employee discount waiting for me.
  • Congratulations and lucky you! Are you going to stick around long enough to do their "Science of Sephora" beauty school?
  • It really depends on both me and how well the managers like me.  I do have a full time job that goes from 11:30 PM to 8 AM, and I do overtime quite a lot.  I'm also taking classes on the side at the local community college on subjects that I didn't get to explore during college like Econ, Anthropology, Sociology, Women's Studies, and so much more.  So we'll see how I can handle a part time job on top of my full time job and classes.  If it's not too tiring, then I'll definitely ask to stay on as a permanent staff and attend their SOS training program.
There's just so much more benefits working for Sephora!  For example, 20% discount off eluxury.com items.  Can you guys guess what I'm getting myself for Christmas?  2 words, starts with an L, ends with a N.  Not to mention just how big the LVMH group is!  Sure my full time job is also under a huge corporation, but not as luxurious as LVMH.
  • I finally broke down and ordered a couple of the Rescue Beauty Lounge nail polishes. I got "grundge" and "bruised." I also got Ji Beck's book because I'm a nerd. I haven't had a chance to look at the book yet but the polish is great. Word on the street is that it's really long wearing but that remains to be seen since I only tried it last night. It applies well and was opaque after two thin coats. No problems with my regular top coat and base coat so you don't need to use hers. The colors are great too.
  • Since I had a gift card I went to Macy's and bought two Clinique products:  a Different Lipstick lipstick (feels very nice but doesn't last long enough) and the Blushing Blush Powder (got wrong color first time had to return it which was easy to do).  Not terribly exciting but with Clinique you can't make really expensive mistakes.
  • This is a really difficult question, as I'm still on my vacation and spending money :) My make up case is bursting with new products... let me think in just two weeks I bought: 2 mascaras, 3 lipsticks, 4 lipglosses, 1 compact powder, 1 nail conditioner, 1 nail protector, 1 hair dye, 1 face foundations, 1 shimmer powder... i guess that's it :)))
  • My New Year's Resolution is to gradually replace all of my old make-up and brushes....i.e. new Bare Minerals soon...hooray!
  • I got an Ulta gift card for Christmas and I decided to spend it on fun stuff rather than stock up on shampoo and sunscreen. I got a Stila smudge pot in jade -- nice but I prefer the Bobbi Brown gel liners, a Stila longwear lipcolor in exquisite -- love this; wish it came in more colors, a Stila lipglaze in berry -- I love Stila lipglazes but hate the dispenser, and a Paula Dorf powder blush in a rosy pink color -- I like her entire line; it's loaded with great colors if you're cool-toned but I don't see a lot of good choices for someone with warm-toned skin.
  • i REALLY want to buy the Nars winter palette and mini lip gloss collection from Sephora since they are on sale, but I am so so broke!  AND my hubby just bought me an iPhone on the condition that I pay the monthly service fees, which is around $75/month..
but.. before the iPhone.. i did buy a BB Cream!
What's a BB Cream?  well, let's just say, when BB Creams make their debut in the North America market, Bare Minerals and other mineral foundations will wish BB Creams were NEVER EVER formulated.. it conceals like no other, feels sooo incredibly lightweight, and it really makes u look like u just have great skin!  it was originally developed for patients of laser treatments and people with surgical scars.. then actresses started wearing them on TV, and people were wondering how the hell these actresses always had perfect skin.. the secret came out, and now BB Creams are sold everywhere in Asia.. i'm totally new to it, but Kathi at Lotus Palace is one of the biggest BB Cream authorities IMO, so check out her blog:  http://lotuspalace.blogspot.com/search/label/BB%20Cream
