Awful Lip Lines!
  • OK I am beginning to notice those little verticle lines at the edges of my lips lately.  I can't wear colored lipsticks because they bleed into the lines.  I really noticed it when I put on some Benetint lip stain the other day.  I am not a smoker and haven't been for years and even when I did it was very little.
Just wondering....is there anything I can do about them.  I'm slightly saddened by them. I use lip balm all the time...maybe drinking more water....*sigh*
  • I know these have been discussed here but I don't remember where. Reverse lip liners are basically wax pencils. You outline your lips with them and they help keep lipstick in place. DuWop, Benefit and Sally Hansen all make one. I like Sally Hansen's the best. It's also the cheapest.
  • If you spend allot of time sunbathing that might cause such problems. That is not good for your skin, if you are going out into the sun you should wear allot of sunblock. As for what one can do about them my mother do treatments whit a special electrical device that stimulate acupuncture points but whit no needles, it is supposed to help on stretch marks, such lines, scars and the like and it is rather successful. The lady that invented the machine is a skin doctor named Audrey Wong. Here is a picture of the method being done. I do not know if it is available in USA though. http://www.krystallkulen.no/?text=40
  • I don't sunbathe too much...far too much burning of the skin.  I use lip balm all the time with SPF.  I will look into PurpleRules' advice with the reverse lip liner.  It's not THAT bad...but I notice it...so of course I will make a bigger deal out of it.
PurpleRules-I looked through the various pages inthe forum in hopes of actually finding something.  I was unsuccessful, but I bet there may be something under the lip gloss thread.  I'll look there.
PrettyClaws-that technique looks scarry, but maybe I can find something in English about it.  Thanks!
  • I have some vertical lip lines now. I've noticed more since getting older (I'm now 50). I never have trouble with migration from lipsticks or glosses if I wear a longer wearing lipstick. The glossier and thinner the product, the more it migrates. I use Lancome and Estee Lauder lipsticks for the most part. I tried Benefit, and theirs migrate like crazy, so I returned them. I think Bare Escentuals and Prescriptives lipsticks wear pretty well, and I recently picked up a Revlon moisturizing lipstick with the circle of moisturizer in the middle, and I was surprised that I didn't have any problem from it either.

As far as treatment products are concerned, there are many out there, but I've tried a few that were supposed to improve lines and I never had much success with them.
  • It is not scary and do not hurt, it uses low level electricity to stimulate acupuncture points. In fact if one feel anything it is a relaxing feeling. I however know that the lady that made the method live in Norway and have only heard of it in Norway, but I just think I would mention it.

Also there are facial masks that make the skin on the face tighter for a little while, that might be useful if you are dressing up for an evening or something like that.
  • Sally Hansen makes this lip treatment that's suppose to help with your lip lines.  My sisters and I all smoke (yes.. we need to quit.. we ALL know), so despite our Asian genes, our lips are very susceptible to those yicky vertical lines.
The Sally Hansen one works decently, but you have to use it every single day.  A more permanent solution would probably be to get your lips filled.  I saw that on TLC's 10 Years Younger.  =D
I generally don't have a problem with my lip color bleeding unless I'm using a really dark lipstick.  Glosses generally don't bleed.
  • If you feel brave, Restylane injected into the vermillion (lip line) border works wonders.

  • I would agree with the Sally Hansen suggestions.  I use the invisible lip liner and it works REALLY well.
