Does anyone know anything about salicylic acid and curly hair? I have type 4, porous, fine hair, and seborrheic dermatitis. I want to try not using shampoo but I can only go 2 days before I have to wash because of the burning itch and crusty flakes. In the past the Tgel shampoo cleaned my scalp really well but I didn't know if it would remove silicone or dry out my already dry hair.
I don't have an answer to your question. But I have read that with seborrheic dermatitis, you actually want to cleanse more often rather than less. I know that's counterintuitive, because with burning, flaky scalp, you would think cleansing less often to give your scalp a rest would be better. But I've read that the fungus that causes seborrheic dermatitis kind of feeds off of your scalp oils, so cleansing more (daily) is better. FWIW. Maybe you can find a shampoo that cleanses your scalp well and doesn't dry your hair too much.
My scalp problem is similar to yours, although not as severe. I've had good luck with CVS Psoriasis Medicated Shampoo Plus Conditioner. It has 3% salicylic acid. I use it twice a week (per instructions) and leave it on six minutes. This improves the way my scalp feels. After shampooing I use Aveda Dry Remedy or Damage Remedy Conditioner, which I leave on for three minutes, to counteract the drying effects of the shampoo.
I haven't tried the selsun bule, I will. I have to correct my statement I co-wash pretty much daily. I wonder if a Brain could answer if co-washing with seborrheic dermatitis is an okay practice or do I need to use shampoo to keep it under control
