Does anyone know a primer with a high SPF?
  • I might've asked this before. If so, sorry.

You know how I have this super shiny could signal airplanes at night forehead? Well, I've been using a makeup primer - either Avon's Magix or the Victoria's Secret one - which helps. It doesn't fix it entirely but it calms the shine down and keeps it away longer. Both are SPF 20. Well, I'm now undergoing acne surgery (oh, and BTW, it's official, I have the beginnings of acne rosacea) and my dermatologist told me that she can see sun damage starting and wants me to use a sunscreen on my face.

I've tried all sorts of sunscreens and despite their promises to not be greasy and not clog pores, they still are greasy and make me break out terribly. Since I've already got enough acne as it is I don't want to add more.

So I'm looking for a primer, one that's not horribly expensive - both the ones I use cost $10 - with a high SPF.

    Anyone know of one?

On a side note - I've had this mole on my hand that has bugged me for years. I'd even wake up in the middle of the night to find myself scratching it. Recently in a 24 hour period it changed color - and kept getting darker and darker until I could get into the dermatologist. She removed it and sent it for a biopsy. Well, the results were abnormal though not cancerous. However when I went in for a recheck on it, she told me if I had waited two months, it would have been cancerous by then. I guess subconsciously I knew there was something wrong with that one mole. It wasn't a big one either. Just the size of a pin prick.
  • I use separate primer and sunscreen on my oily skin. I like the idea of a product for my sunscreen that is dedicated and formulated for that purpose.

I hope you find a product that works for you. Hopefully someone will know of one.
  • @Jami: That's a VERY scary story about your mole. I'm glad you're ok and I hope that serves as a wakeup call for our other readers! Thanks for sharing.
  • I hope so too, RB. I'm kind of obsessive about the skin cancer thing what with having my grandma on dad's side die of a brain tumor that they really believe started as skin cancer. Both my parents have had cancerous moles removed as well.

One of my mom's friends had a cancerous mole removed years ago. Then a couple years ago the scar actually bubbled, she had it checked - even though the mole was gone the area had turned cancerous again and the cancer is currently in her lymph nodes.

So, yeah, people - GET YOUR MOLES CHECKED! Don't think just because you're young it'll be okay. I just turned 35 and already had my first brush with it.
  • If you go to sephora.com and type in 'primer spf' that comes back with 35 options but they seem a bit costly to me. They have Nars pro prime spf 30 for $32. I hope you find a primer that works and doesn't cost much.
  • Becca cosmetics makes one with zinc oxide but I'm not sure how appropriate it is for oily skin types.  It also has a fragrance to it, which may bother some people.
