Dark areas on your body
  • Hi. I also wanna consult about (how embarrassing this is, but okay i'll open up) how can i make my dark underarms and inner thighs back to normal, I mean back to my skintone. I have this problem since a few months ago when they started getting a little darker, and now I dont know what to do. Seemed like whitening deodorants and whitening lotions wont do good--- that's why i have to ask somebody about it. actually i notice that my underarm got darker when i started using armpit hair removal cream, Sallyhansen. I think the cream is good, but as i watched one tv program before they said that after you shave or like rub something on your body like on your underarm you shouldn't put water on it immediately. it's like you have to wait for a couple of minutes before water can finally touch that skin to avoid darkening. I thought maybe that's why my underarm got darker because i didnt wait. as for my inner thighs, i think they started to get darker when i became a little overweight. because of that my thighs got a little bigger and since i didnt buy underwears that are a size bigger than my usual underwear size, the tendency was everytime i walk the hem line of the underwear of my inner thigh rubbed much to my skin that it caused them to be that dark. it's really embarrassing to tell you this, really. but i have to do something about it as well. please help me on this. thank you.
  • Not a Brain here, but I suspect the skin is darkening due to irritation. I now use an epilator to remove underarm hair. When I still shaved, the skin under my arms was darker than the surrounding skin. Likewise the skin on the inner thigh was darker when I was heavier. Now that I have lost 25+ pounds the darkness is fading.

Don't be embarrassed to ask questions. There are no dumb questions. If you don't ask questions you never find the answers.

    Hope this helps a little.

And maybe the Brains will chime in and let me know if I am right in my theory about the skin being darker due to irritation. (For reference, my skin tone is ivory.)
  • thanks for your reply (again). :) the epilator you're saying, is it also good to remove your hair on your private area? hmm.. but i still would like to know some products that will return those dark areas back to my skintone, do you know any? wow! for the weight loss of 25+ lbs. :)
  • I use an epilator only on underarms and on legs.

  • Also consider a diagnosis called acanthosis nigricans (spelling?).  http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/acanthosis-nigricans/DS00653  Not to freak you out w/ diagnoses--there is no reason to think I can diagnose you over the internet, and I'm not a physician.  But just something to ask your doctor about.
  • thanks guys for your help. i think im gonna go to a dermatologist and check what she can do about it. :)
  • are you overweight? if yes, losing weight will be the answer. i started noticing the same on my inner tights after i gained another 10lbs... it all has to do with insulin resistance and excess weight.
  • i was overweight last year. right now i'm gradually getting my original weight back when i was in college. but the dark areas on my body won't go back to my natural skin tone. i feel ashamed cuz they're hideous. :(
  • It may take time for the skin tone to go back to normal after you have lost the excess weight.
  • ok. it's really good to hear that. thank you. :)
