Paula Begoun came out with a list of her picks for the best expensive and inexpensive beauty products. Here's the link:

If you see something on her list that you've tried and either liked or disliked, please post about it!
On her anti-aging product recommendations...I used to use the Neutrogena Anti-Wrinkle cream and it was fine.
And years ago I tried the Estee Lauder Perfectionist serum. I found it smelled nice and because it was expensive I told myself it worked but then I switched to the Olay Renergist serum and to me it was the same...no visible difference though both smelled nice and went on nicely.
Remembering these past purchases it reminded me that I usually think something WORKS if it FEELS nice on my skin rather than if it actually produces RESULTS that are promised. I guess that is OK since my skin is sensitive but it makes me susceptible to products that are well-formulated rather than actually EFFECTIVE in what they claim to do.
I have not used any of the products listed. I've never even heard of CeraVe. I do use Max Factor's Lash Perfection mascara, and prefer it over Lacome's Definicils. I've used several of the Olay Creams, and like them, but haven't tried the serum. I have to admit, I don't like Olay's eye pods. I don't know if they work or not, but its a pain to apply.
