  • Is mira hair oil really worth a try.
  • Hopefully the Brains will answer your question.

I looked this oil up and it looks terribly expensive. So far as I know putting ANY sort of oil on your hair will not make it grow. Taking better care of your hair by conditioning it more and treating it more gently will lead to less breakage and it could appear to be making your hair grow. But it would really be due to taking better care and less breakage, not any sort of oil you were using.

Brains? Is that correct or am I mistaken?
  • Agreed, I don't think there is any topical that actually works to make hair grow longer or stronger; there are topicals that can help with hair loss/baldness, but I don't know if even those do much for normally functioning hair.

And I recently read (maybe here?) that even the breakage thing is a myth--that your hair won't grow less just because you have split ends.  It would just look raggedy, but still grow just as long.  I always thought that it would break off and you wouldn't be able to get it as long, but anyhow...

  • Oh, and this sounds like a bogus pseudoscience claim to me: "Instantly remove all toxins build up on your scalp and follicles of your hair
(so you will never experience a bad hair day or lose hair ever again)."
  • Surprise!  There MAY actually be something to this stuff.

This site: http://growhairoil.com/focus-on-mira-hair-oil-ingredient-eclipta-alba says that mira oil is made of a plant extract known as eclipta alba.

    These two PubMed studies:

have found that eclipta alba extract may stimulate hair growth.

Of course, that doesn't mean that mira oil works because the extracts could be in a different form, or used at much lower concentrations, than in the published studies. Still, it's an intriguing possibility.

But I still agree with SaraF about all the crappy pseudoscience claims.

And yes, LindyG, you are correct about how conditioning hair helps it grow longer. It doesn't REALLY grow differently, it's just that since you don't have to trim off the split ends, your hair reaches the desired length more quickly.
  • Hi I am indian and ecipta alba is commonly called bhringaraj and maha bhringaraj oil has been used since centuries for hair growth and preventing greying of hair ... I use it too and have noticed lesser hair fall not sure about new growth.
  • Ecipta alba or bhringaraj oil can be found at much cheaper price in India and should be there on amazon by the name "bhringaraj" or "bhringaraja" or "mahabhringaraj/a"
  • Thanks for all the answers very interesting. I've also heard that it gets rid of any fungus on the scalp so hair has clean environment to flourish. What are ur thoughts on this?
  • Thanks everyone.
  • I think Mira Hair Oil is best for you , if you want to know about mira hair oil please log on to http://www.mirahairoilinfo.com/
  • i heard of very good results of adding chilli pepper essential oil to the shampoo. it's supposed to stimulate your scalp and reduce hair loss
  • Coconut and jojoba hair oils can clean the scalp and moisturize hair just as well...and they're a lot more affordable ;)
  • I've heard that hibiscus and turmeric have a similar reputation in ayurvedic tradition, and the far East too, don't know if science has checked that out.  Also, thanks Uma - the best conditioning I ever found was from India, when a woman recommended leaving olive oil combed through my hair for an hour before washing (no conditioning after).  I've been too lazy to keep it up, but it was awesome, I couldn't believe my hair.
  • heres a site that sells the oil uma recommended: http://www.banyanbotanicals.com/prodinfo.asp?number=3293
