How to treat sores on my scalp (result of hair dyeing/full-head bleach)?
  • I never had a full-head bleach until 2 weeks ago, at a salon. During the bleaching process my scalp itched and burned like never before (I've been colouring my hair for years now).

The problem I have now is the painful sores that keep popping out on my scalp.
I had them before after dyeing my hair and never knew what to do, so I'm asking you for help now! They are painful and bleed if I scratch them, so I also have scabs creating...

    Thank you!
  • This  happened to me many years ago and it's awful!  The only thing I could think to do was treat my hair and scalp gently. I tried not to shampoo any more often than necessary, using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I didn't co-wash then, but if it happened now, I would try that. I avoided using a comb close to my scalp. It took time, but eventually my scalp recovered.

  • Hi Georgia,

thanks for your comment. Could to explain what do you mean by co-wash?
  • Co-wash is the term used for using conditioner to wash your hair instead of shampoo. I co-wash my hair. I use an inexpensive, no silicones conditioner (mine is VO5) and clean my hair and scalp in the shower. (Use it just like you would shampoo.) I use a no sulfate shampoo every third day. (My scalp does not like sulfates.)

I hope your scalp recovers soon. It sounds throughly unpleasant and uncomfortable. If it doesn't recover within a reasonable time frame (perhaps a week or two, at most) I think you should see a dermatologist. That is just my two cents worth.
  • i get these too when i bleach my roots, they scab in a few hours and are gone by the next wash. i don't really worry about them
  • Mine last for weeks though...
  • then i think that's something more serious, have you tried other brands? other strength of the oxidiser (lower)?
  • Well, I had it done at the salon...My hairdresser told me I have sensitive skin and they gave me some kind of scalp treatment at the salon, to try and soothe it.

I bought a mild shampoo, for sensitive scalp, and try not to wash my hair more than once a week.
  • I think a zinc based shampoo might help.  Do they make those for dandruff (I think selsun blue)?  Zinc is what they use for diaper rash, it's very skin-soothing.  But I would see a dermatologist.  You may have inflamed hair follicles at this point.
  • I vote with Sarah. Please see a dermatologist. According to the time line this has been an issue for you for about a month now. Time to go see a doc about this!
  • This has happened too me today I had my hair bleached and guess I reacted too it, After I have blisters and scabs all over my scalp which were pussing and bleeding.! During the bleaching progress my scalp felt like it was almost on fire.!! so I asked for it too be washed off.. TheThe pain was that bad I had too ring the doctors and was seen straight away put on a course of tablets for allergies and also steroids .. While left with ginger hair.! Will not be bleaching my hair again after the pain I've just experienced.
  • i know this all to well :( it does kill but you cant help but scratch. I was reccomended doing a scalp masque with moroccan oil. It bloody worked for me :) i put moroccan oil (i only use the proper named brand) onto my scalp and hair, put a cheap plastic shower cap over and then a warm towel. i left it overnight and voila :) it was much better and i had such silky hair the next day  ;) The moroccan oil is just argan oil (with silicones) which is high in vitamin e brill for skin. Hope this helps  :) p.s i just stopped doing a full head bleach i opted for full head, bleach, foil highlights instead. it looked a lot more natural on me too :)
