If vitamin c serum effect is temporary..... Then why bother ?
  • I read on a lot of forums on Internet that the brightness and the effect that vitamin c serum gives lasts as long as you keep applying. If one stops, it's effect fades ... They why use it everyday for anti aging ? Why can't we just use it few days before a special event... Could you please explain.. Thanks a lot.
  • I always understood that this applies to all anti-aging products.  It isn't to say that the effects are seen right away.  It may take some time to see the full effects from brightening skin products for example (maybe even months of use), which is why you can't just use them as needed.  But if you stop using the products, it's like stopping your blood pressure medication--the symptoms come back.  I'm not sure this applies entirely to products that lighten dark spots, though.  I think if you keep using sun protection religiously, you may not get the dark spots back, at least not until you slip up and get exposed to sunlight again.  And in the case of hydroquinone, you don't want to be using that stuff indefinitely.  But what I've said may apply to Vitamin C and things like retinoids.  Use it or lose it.  Be curious what the brains will say.
  • Thanks Sarah.. Ya cause I was just wondering why don't I apply my vitamin c serum s month before some imp event.. Cause stopping the usage may just mean my skin going back to normal... I don't know...am confused...but what you say makes sense.
  • I had read somewhere (I looked and don't see it in my bookmarks, sorry) that Vitamin C used in the mornings under your sunscreen is really good because it boosts the efficiency of the sunscreen in protecting your skin. Add Vitamin E to the product and it is even better. I don't recall which was which but one boosted the protection against UVA rays and the other boosted the protection against UVB rays. That in and of itself is reason enough for me to add a vitamin C&E serum to my morning routine.
  • That's intersting
  • lindygirl is right. la roche-posay used to make very good vitamin c serum in a metal tube, which meant it didn't get exposed to oxygen, which we know is the number one enemy for vitamin c. they discontinued the serum though, which is a big shame. on the subject why bother putting something that stopped working soon after you discontinue - antiaging is an investment and takes commitment, you can not yo-yo between doing it and not doing it
  • Hi Ally E

They still have the redermic line with 5% vit c in a metal tube... but an alternative that is packaged even better at a higher concentration 10% and reasonable in price is the Alyria antioxydant capsules... they  are packaged individually in dark capsules so ur only exposing the product being used at the time to oxygen.

there in a silicone base and easy to apply with just the right amount.... about 50 bucks. for 50 capsules

I use them in conjunction with Glytone Vitaceutical serum which contains 0.1% Delta-Tocopheryl Glucoside which is the most stable form of vit e - so it keeps it's antioxidant properties  and doesn't just act as an emollient  ( as vit e often does in other products) as well as Phospholipids which help improve barrier function..

now alternatively u could use C E Ferulic but i refuse to use it because of the packaging  and its also not great for acne prone skin ...
  • thanks for the recommendation, will keep it in mind for the future, but for now 50$ is quite expensive, la roche-posay I got off ebay for $12 and it lasted me over 2 months before the tube broke, it actually split with 1/3 of product left. flaw in the design i guess.
  • The capsule thing sounds good..thanks..I might try it
