Natural Oil Usages
  • I get really lost in the debates over what oils are "bad" and "good" and what is "natural". Sigh. So, what do different oils do? Are they all used for the same thing, ie your skin? Are some better for your skin than others? I think some of the oils (is it coconut) that produces a better lather in soap a well. Or are some oils just used because they "sound" helpful?
  • Bethany, you sound like an interested and curious person.  Welcome to the forum!
I get SOOO confused on all this myself that I bought both the Beauty Brains book and Paula Begoun's "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me" which are REALLY helpful for this kind of info.  You can also pose this question directly to the BBs if some of the SMARTER (than me) forum members don't answer your questions.
If you don't want to purchase Begoun's book you can subscribe to her Beautipedia which is a constantly updated web version of her books.  www.beautypedia.com/Default.aspx

  • Hey Bethany!
You and me both! I wanna know if Argan oil is as effective at penetrating the hair shaft as coconut oil is! Apparently argan oil is a really good skin moisturiser. I used that and coconut oil on my body to keep it moisturised. They're both really effective.
Also i read somewhere on the beauty brains website that olive oil is good too.
  • Hey,
I heard that argan oil is quite effective, although it is hard to extract and incorporate into formulations, therefore it is not too popular in products. With that being said, The Body Shop just launched an argan body butter....

Have you guys heard of any information as to if Sunflower oil or Canola oil is good for the skin?
  • This should help:-
