What is Papain?

    I was just wondering why my Bath and Body Works lotion contains this product as it appears to be a meat tenderizer but also is used in chewing gum, soap, contact lens cleaner and toothpaste from the article I read. Is it useful in hand cream?

    Papain is often used as an exfoliant...I use Zia's Papaya Mask which is a gentle exfoliant. for your FACE  Perhaps it would do the same thing for your hands.

    Papain is the enzyme derived from the papaya plant.  You'll see papain and bromelain (derived from pineapples) a lot in products due to their ability to exfoliate gently and effectively.  They smell great too!
