lotion expiration
  • Does hand or body lotion ever expire? I was going through a box I packed up when I retired 4 years ago. I found a a bottle of Curel (before they made it fancy). Is it still okay to use? Thanks
  • I would think it depends on the lotion, container, and if it has spf etc in it.  Our rule in Mary Kay is if the lotion doesn't have an expiration date, (which if they have certain ingredients including SPF they do) then it is considered expired after 3 years.  This is the rule for MK though, so other product lines may differ.
  • I don't have an expert opinion here, but were it me, I would use old curel unless it had separated or looked or smelled weird.
  • I agree with Sarah on this one. Maybe you could try it in a small spot if it looks and smells ok? See if you skin has a reaction to it.
  • Thanks. It has no smell and seems fine. The only reason I ask is because I really loved Curel before they went and made a lot of different kinds, This is just plain old Curel.

  • This is why I so object to all the anti-preservative propaganda these days.  It is still fine because of the miracle of modern preservation.  The world wasn't so wonderful before preservatives--a lot of things went to waste.
  • 3 years is a good estimated shelf life for a product like this. If it passes the "see and sniff" test (in other words if it looks and smells ok) then it should be fine.
