Sensitive Skin Care products
  • Hi All, I am new here. I have facial psoriasis and rosacea (I know, how lucky).
My question is about the range of cleansers and moisturizers available for sensitive and intolerant skin.

I have a lot of knowledge of brands as I have tried a lot over the years. some of these trials were OTc and some prescribed by my dermatologist.

My current dilemma revolves around determining the better brand amongst la Roche Posay and Avene, the overall range and reliability as such.
To ask a specific questions, how good are the ingredients in Toleriane Dermo cleanser when compared to Avene Sensitive Skin cleanser?

I have used Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser but it clogs my pores and I am allergic to Propylene Glycol so it irritates my psoriasis. The Cetaphil Oily skin cleanser makes me break out. Cerave cleansers, Neutrogena and Aveeno are no good for me. My skin is combination to Oily but I try to use products directed at normal to dry skin so they don't dry my face or irritate my psoriasis.

I am currently using la Roche Posay Toleriane Cream Cleanser for combination skin and am quite happy with it as it does not dry me out or leave a film residue like non foaming Cetaphil.

    Looking forward to your comments.
  • Maybe Sarah will pick up on this thread. You and she have the rosacea in common. She has a lot of products she has tried and may be able to guide you towards ones she thinks may work.

In the meantime you can look up the specific ingredients of each product here: http://www.cosmeticscop.com/cosmetic-ingredient-dictionary/A.aspx

You can also perhaps find reviews of each of the ones you mentioned on makeupalley.com.

I hope you find what works for you!

  • I like eucerin redness relief cleanser.  The night cream from that line is pretty thick so it might be too much for you but worth a try.  The whole line has licorice extract in it, which is anti-inflammatory.  But if you like LRP toleriane maybe you should stick wtih it.  Everyone is different.  I also like Paula's choice skin recovery cleanser.

Also--make sure you follow up with your derm regularly so he/she knows what worked and what didn't.  I love my prescription topicals for my rosacea, and using the prescription stuff has allowed me to use a wider range of other products w/o irritation.

  • Thanks both. good to hear comments from people with similar concerns.
sarahf - Have you tried any of Cerave products? I tried their hydrating cleanser a year ago but it clogged my pores. I hear they have a new Foaming cleanser for Oily skin. They also have a facial moisturizer with Ceramides and what not.

Toleriane cleanser works better than anything I have tried so far. However, my concern is that it lacks any cutting edge ingredients to calm the inflammation or redness. Plus, I am not sure the ingredients are really in line with "Intolerant skin" requirements.

Let me see if I can try Eucerin redness Relief.

  • i recently had a few really bad episode of rosecea, not sure what triggered it but la roche-posay roseliac took down redness in 5min, i still felt heat on my cheeks, but they no longer looked burgundy. i never expected this cream to work so well, i think worth a try for those days when you get a reaction to sooth the skin
  • I don't like the redness relief night cream (too heavy), only the cleanser so far.  I have tried Cerave PM lotion and love it.  I've never used the cerave cleanser, but my pores are not that easily clogged these days (remember, though, that I use Rx topicals for rosacea that probably keep any acne I would have in check).

  • I do not know a lot about this topic but I do know that Suki has products to target rosacea. Check their website out, it is an expensive line but it pure/natural/organic.
