Usually I have no MAJOR problems with skin care products...except for them NOT transforming me into a 20 year old. However lately I have been having some trouble. Sigh.
I have been using the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil for several weeks and now have several zits...grrrrr...I loved the stuff to begin with...maybe I am not getting it all off? I follow it with a cleanser and TONER so this shouldn't be happening should it? It also seems to have dried out my cuticles for some reason. I have solved that problem with vaseline applied directly to my cuticles.
Next I purchased some Ponds Cleansing Cloths while on vacation and managed to aggravate my roseacea by scrubbing too hard...that was DEFINITELY MY mistake because I loved that it was exfoliating my dry areas. Sigh....again.
Finally, I have been using my Ulta body cream (scented) and I think it is causing breakouts on my upper back. I love the scent but I suspect that is the culprit here. Grrrr...again.
Now that I have written this all out...I KNOW what the problems are. However, does anyone else have trouble with the DHC Cleanser...or scented body creams. Besides the scent with the body cream is there something else that can cause breakouts?
Hi Judy,
Sorry to hear about your recent skin problems. Are you sure they are pimples, or could it be roseacea bumps. I had a horrible time after using a product line that was too harsh for my skin. I bought some La Roche-Posay Toleriane Face Wash and ATOPALM MLE Face Lotion after reading several recommendations on Skin Type Solutions http://www.skintypesolutions.com/forum/index.php. I still use the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil to remove make up, but the wash and lotion have really gotten rid of the redness. The roseacea bumps are going away too :) I had less red after the first use. I have been using them for about 3 days now, and are loving them. I can't remember the last time my skin tone was so even. Both of these products were recommended for roseacea. Unless your skin is oily, Dr Baumann does not recommend using toner.
I strongly recommend checking out the Skin Type Solutions if you have any skin problems. The forum is very active, and has lots of good information.
Thanks, Anne, for the suggestion. SO FAR my rosacea has been only red skin not bumps. I will check out those recommendations on skintypesolution.com and in my NEW Paula Begoun book,
I see that Begoun gives a THUMBS UP for the La Roche-Posay Tolerane Face wash and that she warns on the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil that it CAN cause breakouts... I must be one of unlucky ones who can't benefit from this product.
The company bases many of their formulas around olive oil and olive extracts. In fact, if you’re looking for the most expensive bottle of pure olive oil around, look no farther than the tiny vial DHC offers as their star product! They do their best to convince you that this olive oil is special because it is purified, but I ask you: What do you think you’re buying at the grocery store? Do you think it’s unpurified, sludge-laden olive oil? Of course not! And your skin won’t be able to tell the difference between DHC’s olive oil and a quality olive oil from your local market—you can use either one to moisturize dry skin.
What does olive oil have to offer your skin? Well, it’s a good source of antioxidants and, of course, has moisturizing properties for dry skin, but that’s about it. Olive oil isn’t a must-have ingredient for skin, but is a must-avoid ingredient if you’re prone to breakouts or have oily skin because its fatty acid content can contribute to clogged pores. Its antioxidant ability has been proven, but there is also research showing that other oils (such as date seed oil) offer even better antioxidant protection
Hey Judy I am sorry to hear about your recent skin problems as well. My husband has pretty bad acne on his face and back and he also breaks out from some washes. One soap that he ended up liking was Shebas Secrets' Eucalyptus and Green Tea soap. He uses it every day and it is helping, it is of course not a miracle worker but he feels clean and his skin isn't getting worse.
Also, I have something called Keratosis Pilaris. It is a condition where I pretty much have bumbs on my arms and legs but I think that can go anywhere on the body. I have medicine for it now but it used to get worse when I scrubbed on it. If KP is what you have, the scrubbing is making it worse. However, KP is genetic so you should have had signs of it your whole life.
I agree on DHC's virgin olive oil. It is way over priced. I am loving the ATOPALM face lotion, and just got L'Occitane's Shae Butter Face Lotion w/ SPF 15. It got great reviews. I've only tried it on the back of my hand so far, but it sinks right in, and leaves almost a powdery finish. Not at all greasy. It sounds like the two of us have a lot in common as far as skin conditions. It really is too bad the DHC Cleansing Oil did not work for you though :(
Hey Anne: The last two paragraphs of remarks about DHC's Deep Cleanser were Begoun's NOT mine but I see the formatting isn't working...neither is the editing feature.
I have finally settled on Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser...sigh...however since it doesn't remove makeup very well so then I had to get Comodynes facial clothes which work well and removing makeup and are gentle. I have really never had trouble with cleansers until the DHC product. I'm back on track now.
Judy, were you using another cleanser after using the DHC Deep Cleanser? I find that people it helps prevent break outs when I do that. I love how clean it gets my skin, and how it removes all my make up, but I can never seem to scrub it all off
TG: Yeah I was using another cleanser AND toner. I must just be one of those unlucky persons for whom the DHC Cleanser is not the HG of beauty products. Initially I did notice that my skin was softer but then...the zits!
I have acne-prone skin. I break out fairly often, but the DHC Cleansing Oil is not making my acne worse. And I have no problem washing it off, either. Sometimes I don't even follow with a cleanser, since it's water soluable and rinses right off for me. When I do use a cleanser to follow, I use Cetaphil.
Judy, were you using the secondary cleanser and toner before you started using the DHC? If not, is it possible that the combination of the cleansing oil, plus a cleanser, plus a toner was just too much? I have oily skin and find that the DHC Cleansing Oil actually makes my skin almost feel dry after I rinse it off. I guess it's because the oil helps dissolve the oil on my face and in my pores. Maybe your skin freaked out due to over-cleansing rather than just the DHC Cleansing Oil itself?
