Dark pigmentation of follicles on legs
  • I have these spots on leg from as long as can remember. But they seem to corespond to the hair follicles, but they seem not to be hair under the layer on the skin because even if the hair is waxed or plucked it still predominately there and it looks different. How does treat such a distinct problem, this pigment thing seems to be more found in tanned to brown skin.

  • Yikes! It looks like Beyonce's wearing fish net stockings.
  • Could it be that what you are seeing is not hyper-pigmentation but just where the hair is very black and beginning to grow out again? If you shave your legs there is still just a bit of the black hair, shaved at the skin's surface true, but it is still there and you would still be able to see it. It would look like dark spots.

Have you tried waxing your legs? Or using an epilator to remove the hair? It tweezes the hair, pulls it out by the roots. An epilator is rather painful the first time you use one but you do get used to it and eventually it doesn't bother you to use one anymore.

  • Hello Lindygirl1960
It still apparers when I wax and pluck. and the brown dots can only found my legs. when a pluck though it does to lessen slightly but it still very apparent. Actually, you just reminded me that I was looking into epliators do you know of any good brands? I looking for something that would work on legs, underarms and bikini zone.
  • I had used a Braun epilator for years. I dropped the first one and had to buy a second. I had this one -  http://www.drugstore.com/braun-silk-epil-3-softperfection-epilator-for-legs-model-3170/qxp338962?catid=180638

After about 3 years I felt like it was beginning to wear out. I had used it once, and sometimes twice, a week the entire time. So this time I splurged and got this one -  http://www.drugstore.com/emjoi-emagine-epilator-ap18/qxp206441?catid=183760

I think doing the epilation goes faster with the new one. I get fewer broken hairs. It isn't as LOUD. So all in all I am happy  I took a chance and tried it.

I have to do this once a week at least. The testimonials about going for 4 weeks sure don't apply to me! I have noticed that since I no longer shave my underarm area the dark areas are gone that I once figured were with me for life. I have ivory skin and my underarm area had always been darker than the rest of my skin. Turns out it was due to shaving irritation.

Have you ever asked a doctor about the brown dots on your legs? I know our daughter has to be super careful about shaving. She gets a terrible case of folliculitis that presents itself as red spots all over her legs if she isn't really cautious about it. (She has curly hair so that is probably why she has problems with it.)

  • I get them too.  I'm fair skinned, but tan easily.  Not sure if that's a factor.  Although I think mine may be stubble, because I don't use epilators, just razors.  If it's folliculitis, though, watch out--you won't like the advice the brains gave someone else on the forums who had folliculitis (not to shave or use any other removal methods for a long time....).
  • @ Sarah - I am pretty sure that is advice I wouldn't be able to stand following. No shaving or any other methods of hair removal??! ACK!  :P
  • My thoughts exactly:)
