Acne Scarring on back, shoulders and legs
  • Hi All

Im sorry if this has been posted before. I have hyper pigmentation due to acne and picking at scabs in my teens (I know bad! If I had a time machine and could go back!). The scars are dark brown spots (Im asian!) Are there any products out there that you can recommend that will help fade these unsightly little things?I am looking for topical treatments, not so much microdermabrasion (just cant afford it at the moment)  Any answers will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  • i know arbutin works for things like this, but it can be a controversial ingredient. also glycolic acid and spf50 pa+++ everyday doesn't matter that it's cloudy

On the above thread, the reverse of your problem. She has white spots.

What sorts of things have you already tried? I was thinking along the lines of things that make the cells turn over more quickly like AHA or BHA. Retinols are also good for evening out skin tone and Vitamin C products could help. Both retinols and Vitamin C products are notoriously unstable and you have to be careful about the packaging with those.

Hopefully someone else will chime in who has experience in dealing with the same type spots you have. Or maybe one of the Brains will weigh in on the subject.

I hope you find a solution that works for you.
  • Try any of the ones Lindygirl or ally mentioned--also azelaic acid is a nice option (sold in US by prescription, or can order from Australia under brand name azclear) because (like retinol and BHA) it treats any acne you may have now, as well as lightening hyperpigmented spots from old acne.

Ally--why is arbutin controversial?  I'm wondering because it's in one of the products I use (actually, what's in it is bearberry/uva ursi, which is a source of arbutin).

  • oops sarahf, it was hydroquinone! not arbutin... just got the BB newsletter about it
  • i think there's hydroquinone in one of my products and we talked about it in previous posts and you guys made me aware of it. then i confused it with arbutin that's also in my products
