I got a free gift from Lancome and in it was a sample of their "Absolue Premium BX". It runs for 115 for 1.7 oz.. When I checked the ingredients I was shocked. I'm paying 115 for nothing more than water, glycerin, shea butter and further down the list was petrolatum (which appears to be vaseline). They claim it has Pro-Xylane that if I understand right, fits between the skin cells and keeps them in place. Is this a true claim? I recognized other ingredients that would be found in a basic cream as well.
It blows my mind that these companies can charge so much for this and that people buy it.
"Absolue Premium BS" is more like it.
You are correct in being skeptical. This is just a blend of water, glycerin, shea butter and petrolatum. Those are the ingredients that are responsible for the majority of the cream's effect.
Pro-Xylane is just some made-up, "sciencey" word put in to impress people. It doesn't really do anything. The ingredients that help keep the skin cells in place are the ones mentioned above.
They are not outright lying. Look at their claims. They are not even that strong.
See the transformation, verified by women*:
• Intense Moisture: 91% feel skin is nurtured. Re-plumped with life.
• Clarity: A radiant, even skin tone is revealed.
*Percentage of women who noted visible facial improvement after 4 weeks during an 8-week consumer test.
1. Visible repair. Wrinkles only appear to be reduced. They don't say they are actually reduced. They also say 85% experienced improved elasticity and firmness.
2. Intense moisture. They only say people feel skin is nurtured. What does that even mean?
3. Clarity. Huh? Don't you reveal a radiant skin tone every time you wash your face?
The kicker to the entire thing is the * where they say all of these claims are only based on women who used the product and noticed visible facial improvement! So in their study, anyone who reported no differences or negative differences were automatically excluded. That means if 100 people did the study and only 20 found any difference, only their data was used. This isn't science. It's a fairy tale!
The bottom line is that even if these claims were true, you could get the same effects using something from Olay or Neutrogena which is much less expensive.
Lancome should be ashamed of themselves.
