Let me start off my expressing how much I love your website! It's informative, interesting, and best of all...SCIENTIFIC!! I am a college student, and love the last point!
My question is, does vaseline darken lips? I've always used it on my lips before I go to bed, but my roommate tells me that it darkens lips because it can be used to get a greater tan - as it is like an oil. Many people are adding their own anecdotal evidence about how it has darkened their lips - but I don't know what to think! As it is, I have moderately dark lips. Is there any scientific proof? Please help! And many thanks! :)
I use it everyday for years. My lips are pale as ever, lol... In fact my fave Vaseline to use on lips is the Rose one, as that adds a lovely rosiness to my pale lips. I think maybe the truth behind what your friend says could be something to do with the fact that Vaseline is like an oil and it acts on lips under the sun the same way as when some people put tanning oil on skin whilst sun tanning so that the skin actually fries under the heat and gets damaged - which is how they get their "amazing tans"... Tanned skin is damaged skin, no??
Just conjecture on my part. I am not a professional scientist so hopefully someone else comes along with more to say :)
Oh yes btw they do sell Vaseline lip pots with SPF 15 in it. My daughter has one. It's in a yellow and white pot. If you're afraid of tanning your lips with Vaseline, maybe that might help?
