Where are the peptides in L'Oreal Age Perfect Serum?
  • Hi Beauties,

The sales pitch for the L'Oreal Age Perfect Serum says it " features a Nutri-Repair Complex enriched with Bio-Peptides and patented Ceramide Fortifiers that help reverse the signs of past damage". But when I research the ingredients, I don't see anything special, just emollients, silicones, etc. Where are the peptides? And do you think this product is any good?

Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Alcohol Denat., Cyclohexasiloxane, Isohexadecane, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Jasminum Officinale Extract (Jasmine), Mel/Honey, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Caffeine, Cholesterol, Ammonium Polyacrylatedimethyl Tauramide, Ammonium Polyacrylatedimethyl Taurate, Isopropyl Myristate, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Hydroxyapatite, Hydroxypalmitoyl Sphinganine, Caprylyl Glycol, Biosaccharide Gum 1, Butylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Linalool, Geraniol, Eugenol, Coumarin, Limonene, Citral, Citronellol, Benzyl Alcohol, Fragrance, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben

  • L'Oreal are always very clever in making up fancy trade marks to describe "ordinary" things.  In this case it looks like Bio-Peptides = Hydrolyzed Soy Protein.

  • No wayyy, lol! I would have never thought of that!

    You're right!

Naturein Soy Peptide CQ (INCI Name Hydrolyzed Soy Protein) has strong moisture binding properties. It is particularly rich in Glutamic and Aspartic Acids.

    and

A short protein is called a “peptide”, but there’s no set number of amino acids under which the term is used. Calling a protein a “peptide” is like calling a person “short”: it’s a relative judgment.

    Thank you, clever alchemist!
  • You guys beat me to the punch on this one. I was just getting ready to blog about their use of soy proteins as peptides. This is slightly misleading since peptides in the cosmetic sense usually refer to molecules that incorporate copper ions that are designed to help deliver ingredients through the skin. Calling an "old-fashioned" soy protein a peptide is accurate but it feels a little tricky. On the plus side Aveeno has done a ton of research showing the benefits of soy proteins on skin.
  • It's a bit everything old is new again, certainly in the 90's we used to talk about some hydrolyzed proteins as peptides, then all the short synthetic peptides came along and kind of took over the name.
