  • Hey everyone out there in the beauty brains world!

I was wondering what your thoughts were on indoor tanning? good or bad?
  • Here is what the BBs have said on indoor tanning.

  • If you are looking to get a tan quick for cheap, try a new version of Jergens called Jergens Natural Glow Express Moisturizer. I tried it and it gave me a great color in only a day!
  • I struggle with this. I LOVE tanning. I love having a tan and I love laying and relaxing in the warmth. That said, I am also terrified of skin cancer and wrinkles, which indoor tanning definitely causes. I was good for about 3 years after college... no tanning at all and I used sunscreen all the time. I found a self tanner that I really liked and stuck with it. Then I got a job at a tanning salon because it was close, convenient, and totally fit my school schedule since I could get work done there because business was so slow. So obviously I started tanning again. I tanned pretty sporadically, but really enjoyed the color I got. Luckily, I came to my senses after about 6 months and am now tan-free since December. I started using L'Oreal Sublime, which I really love. The color is quick and great. I use sunscreen every day and try to stay out of the sun.
So, I understand the temptation to tan, but don't do it!! Save your skin! You'll appreciate it later.
  • People see pictures of me as a kid and always asked in that incredulous tone, "That's YOU!??!?"

Reason?  I was beyond tanned.  I was black.  My natural coloring (what I have now) is pale.  Pink and pale.  You don't want to see my tummy or my booty, because it's beyond blindingly white.
I wasn't really into tanning as a kid, it was just from playing outside so much!  But guess what?  Now I'm super worried about every single mole on my body.  My beauty mark right above my lip?  Primary doctor told me to see a dermatologist because it's displaying color variation AND evolution.
Soo.. I really don't encourage tanning.  Yes, you look slimmer and more toned with a nice glowy tan, but it's not worth the risks in the future.
As for me?  I've embraced my natural coloring, and I can't figure out why some people want to bleach themselves white!  Hellooo.. people who are white have to deal with higher chances of getting melanoma and what not.
AND tanning beds are bad.  There's this article Dr. Benabio wrote on how the tanning industry is practiaclly the new tobacco industry.  Twisting everything to make tanning sound healthy!
  • thank you guys for you input sooo much!
I just recently started indoor tanning and i love it. Im a strawerry blonde with the normal fair skin, and ive never been able to get this tan! I know tanning is soo bad for you..ive only been less than ten times.. which is till alot!

I was always afraid to use those self tanners cause they always made me look orange cause i was so white! Do any of you have any suggestions to some good self tanners??

    thanks!!
  • I just spent the last 20 minutes writing up a long, thorough post on self-tanners and the stupid site ATE MY POST! I'm so mad. Maybe I'll try posting again later, but right now I'm just really frustrated.
I'd say start with Neutrogena Build a Tan (which is nice and light) until you get the hang of how to apply it, and then use a darker one, like L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Gelee. I don't find it orange on me at all, but I'm not too pale and I'm already kind of yellow toned.
  • The best self-tanner is St. Tropez, IMHO. I had never heard of it until Left Brain and Anonymous Blonde gave it their thumbs up. I think the results are as good as a Mystic Tan (available at tanning salons) but at far less expense, without ever leaving the privacy of your home.....and NO nasty fumes! It looks natural; never orangey.
Fake-Bake Self-Tanning Cream gets rave reviews, as well. Supposedly, Brittany and Madonna use it.
Both prodcuts are available at Amazon. I've seen St. Tropez at Bath & Body Works but I think Sephora carries it, too.

  • I've always believed that almost anything in moderation is fine. In my opinion, once a week is more than enough. I started using a new product: www.bikinikitchen.com and it has been the best tanning lotion that I have used. It works exceptionally well so I don't have to go tanning as often, and It has caffeine in it (coffee) and there have a lot of studies saying that caffeine may prevent skin cancer. They also have free samples.
  • I did love it.That was until I got skin cancer, and now I back right off. The rays are very harmful, and although I love a tan, it isn't worth dying for. Besides, think of all the money you save when you are older, and try and undo what the sun has done...Namely broken down all the collagen and you look way too wrinkled.
  • At beautyaddict's blog, there's a great list of bronzers intended specifically for the legs:

Included in the review is how much they may rub off on fabric, which is a very important factor for me!
