I've just signed in. I usually just read your great blog but now I have a question I could not find an answer for. So I try to write something which is quite difficult for me because I'm from Germany. Hope you understand me!
Well, I read that cationic surfactants stick very close to the hair because of their charge. So they can't be rinsed off with water. Which shampoo do I have to use to avoid a build up? Is a build up possible at all? Can I use soap for this, too? Thanks you very much for answers!
Not a Brain here. I would think that a clarifying shampoo would be sufficient, but maybe the Brains can elaborate on the subject.
Generally speaking using soap in your hair is not a good idea if your water is hard. It will leave your hair feeling rough because the soap won't rinse out well and the hair will be very tangly. Or so I have read. I have never tried to wash my hair with soap as I live in an area with a lot of minerals in the water.
Cationic surfactants deposit during rinsing but washing with almost any regular shampoo will remove them. If you find that your regular shampoo feels like it's leaving something behind, that's because most shampoos these days have some conditioning agents built in. As Lindy suggests, use a clarifying shampoo and you should be just fine.
