Bumble and Bumble Color Minded vs Loreal EverPure
  • Hi to everyone! This question is for the Brains or any brainy reader who would like to contribute-

Recently I splurged at the salon and dyed my hair a gorgeous red. My trusted stylist went on and on about how *amazing* Bb's Color Minded line was for color treated hair. The price of the products are not so amazing. Browsing the drugstore, I noticed that Loreal's EverPure Smoothing line had very similar ingredients.

Do you think they are comparable products? Or rather, is there any special ingredient in the Bb line that will clearly make their product worth the super high price? I'm thinking not worth it, but it doesn't hurt to get another opinion! :) You be the judge!

Sorry for the ingredient vomit! I just didn't want to leave anything out.
  • Luce: Actually, we appreciate the ingredient vomit!

In terms of protecting hair color, I wouldn't expect the Bb products to be dramatically better than L'Oreal. As we've blogged before, the specific surfactant has less to do with color wash out than just the process of exposing hair to all that water!

We have seen data (unpublished so we can't give you specifics) on Tresemme's Color Revitalizing shampoo and conditioner that shows it does a better job of locking in red color. You might give that a try.
  • Thanks for the tip Right Brain!

I work for a major chain drugstore (hello employee discount!) and will definitely check out the Tresemme line during my lunch break tomorrow.

It's really frustrating trying to slog through all of the different claims made by companies. If the Bb product truly was better then the rest, I would maybe consider buying the product. But it's not. Kind of makes me mad thinking about other people that might be misled and wasting so much money. Thank you for having such a great blog to help us muddle through!
  • Update: Found the Tresemme products on sale 2/$7 for 1 liter bottles. What a price difference! Amazing how packaging, marketing, and "prestige" can make a difference for retail prices.
