What is hexapeptide, why does it have numbers (e.g. hexapeptide-11), what good do they do to skin, how do they get into skincare products (derivation)?
A hexapeptide is a chain of 6 amino acids, in the case of Hexapeptide-11 it's made up of Alanine, Phenylalanine, Proline and Valine, in some combination of 6 which I couldn't find.
They get given numbers beacuse it's much easier to remember and fit on a label Hexapeptide-11 than something like Alanyl-Phenylalyl-Prolyl-glycyl-histidyl-lysine.
What do they do for skin? The quick answer is these peptides help other ingredients penetrate into the skin. Specifically, peptides are complexed with copper. This combination supposedly stimulates skin growth while reducing toxicity of the copper.
