I'm almost 22, and have been using pro activ/pro activ knockoffs since high school, which have worked quite well. My problem is: after using my acne treatment at night, I am always wary of moisturizing, worrying that it will make my acne treatment ineffective and possibly lead to a pimple or two by morning (since, after all, benzoyl peroxide dries out the skin as part of the way it works, right?). As a result, I only moisturize in the mornings, which probably isn't very good for my dry skin. Is my fear grounded in fact? Or would moisturizing not effect anything?
In addition, I'm beginning to suspect I'm not as acne prone as I was when I was younger, so I'm looking to switch to something different, something a bit milder and less drying and I was also hoping to get suggestions for what may be good.
You should always moisturize!!! I moisturize first, then dab on acne treatments. The rest of your skin still needs moisture.
For something different.. I've been totally feeling Neutrogena products lately. They just work without any non-sense. For both day and night moisturizer, I love Boots. No 7's Rebalancing Day Gel. I use Paula Begoun's 2% BHA gel, and this moisturizer seems to help seal it in.
Yes, moisturize! Just steer clear of acnegenic ingredients. I, myself, like Complex 15. It's lightweight but effective. I get it at CVS for about 7 bucks a tube. I've been known to spend quite a bit of cash on just the right products, but this moisturizer works so well, I see no reason to stray.
Thanks for the advice you both. I can't believe I didn't question my reasoning for that earlier! So glad I've seen the light! I purchased a tube of that Complex 15, and so far I'm liking it. It definitely hasn't done anything bad to my skin, or made my acne treatment less effective. I've also been looking into Paula Begoun's gels and lotions too to replace what I've been using for my acne, I'm going to get a few samples soon. Can't wait to try them. Thanks again girls!
Complex 15 is a classic! It's one of those products that has been around for a long time, doesn't need to advertise, isn't that expensive, and delivers what it promises. Great moisturizer!
