I don't know if there's been a thread on this topic yet. If so, oops, sorry!!
Anyhow.. I'm curious if any of you still get inspired over star styles? Do you do your make up a certain way for special occassions after seeing a specific star looking that way for a red carpet event? Or perhaps you try out various aspects of a celebrity's personal style?a
I started thinking about this today when a party I went to had a theme of "Hollywood". I can't afford much in the gown department (so WOOHOO for Ross!), so I wanted my hair and make up to really stand out. Lately, I've been LOVING Angelina Jolie's style. Her hair looks so simple and casual, but still glamarous. Her make up is kept relatively simple - she uses neutral colors for her eyes, cheeks, and lips (her lips are simply too big for red lips), but make them pop by applying a medium thick winged out line. The whole image looks SOOO effortless yet gorgeous. So of course, I tried to emulate that style today (pictures are somewhere..... I'll post them when I find them), but making the look my own.
So who's style inspires you? Who do you look for style guidance?
I am not generally a fan of celebrity style except on Oscar night.
However, I just saw the "Sex and the City" movie and I LOVED Cynthia Nixon's look.
Generally I like the "Classic" look rather than ultra trendy which would make me look just pathetic. I think that Helen Mirren has looked smashing at the Oscars in the past few years.
I guess you haven't seen the July cover of Vanity Fair. Its Angelina with dark red lipstick. You're right...it does not look good! I get makeup ideas by new colors the cosmetic companies put out, and the season. I don't pay much attention to what celebs are up to. I will check out magazines to look for a haircut I want so I can show my beautician what I want.
Talk about the "Sex and the city" movie, I looved it And I've always loved SJP's style, she is not classically beautiful but she always looks smashing and classy
But my ultimate celebrity style insipiration is Gisele'hair, I have recent;y achieved the perfect highlights, now I have to manage the softness and beachy waves. I keep trying all kind of masks, and serums and olive oil, maybe my hair will get better for my end of the year trip to Brasil
If only I could look as good ina bikini as well!!
There are quite a few celebs whose style I love but I don't usually try to copy them. I just don't have that many occasions to do a "red carpet" look and I haven't got their budgets. Usually, it's an ad in a magazine that inspires me. I've got a folder full of pictures I've ripped out of magazines. Sometimes I want to copy the entire look and sometimes I take the picture with me when I go shopping to try and match a lipstick or an eyeshadow.
Having said that, if money were no object and I had an appropriate event, I'd love to copy this look of Cate Blanchett's:

Love the dress, love the hair, love the makeup.
Also, Jamie Lee Curtis inspires me. When my hair has gone entirely grey (which will be sooner than I'd like) I'll probably stop coloring it and cut it all off. Unfortunately, I don't have her amazing figure so I won't look quite as good.
I loove Reese Witherspoon's hair. When my hair was longer I specifically had my stylist cut the bangs and style it like hers. Also over the years I have gotten a lot out of Jennifer Aniston.
But right now I'm kind of into Anne Hathaway--I think she always looks so fresh and her skin looks clear and her make-up is the look I REALLY want....girl next door
Judy: I thought Cynthia Nixon looked Great in the movie too! My friend and I were watching an interview on Friday night with her and both commented on how beautiful she looked in just the interview. By the way I saw it last night with my girlfriend and there were about 30 people max...pays to wait until last day of opening weekend
Cate; I too love Anne Hathaway's look, understated.
OK...I liked her BEFORE she was cited as a FASHION ICON by every newspaper that publishes...and I liked her for her smarts not her clothes but WOW...Michelle Obama is fun to watch these day. Her sense of style is really elegant. I am dying to know if she dresses herself. Probably NOT at this point. I can imagine that designers everywhere will be dying to have her wear their clothes. And YES...her look recalls Jackie Kennedy and NO...her pearls are NOT like Barbara Bush.
I have also liked the French president's LAST two wives, Ceclia Sarkozy and now Carla Bruni. They too have the understated "I'm French...no matter what I wear I look fabulous" look.
Judy I agree with you, both french first ladies are amazing. Carla bruni in particular. Why is it that french woman always know how to dress and have unique style?
It must be the air and water. And FB, aren't you Brazilian?? Brazilian girls got the hotness factor going!!
I wish there were more Asian women in media for me to get more make up inspirations from. The only actress with eyes similar to mine is Brenda Song, but she does her make up to look younger to cater to the Disney crowd.
I just watched Sex and the City - The Movie last night with my sisters, and I love love love Charlotte's style. Is she younger than the rest of the girls, or did she just age better? I love her LV train case!!!!!!
Well, I am half Brazilian, so I guess I have half the hotness factor, jeje
However, Brazilian woman spend a lot of time making themselves beautiful, and working out!! so it is as much effort as it is the genes. I used to look much better before I came o the US, much thinner, and had the time, now I don't have the time and I have 8 pounds more
But I have to say that all my celebrity inspirations are Brazilian models!! I think that's the beauty ideal I grew up with
Do you not have the time now because you live in the US? I know Americans work more hours than most Europeans. Is that true of Latin America as well? I only work 4 days a week now and I don't have time to exercise on the days that I work. I barely have time on the days that I don't and there's no question that my health and appearance are suffering because of it. I wonder if our devotion to our jobs is contributing to the obesity epidemic. I'm certainly more sedentary now than I was when I worked 3 days a week. I probably eat more junk too. I'd love to arrange my work schedule so I could fit in some exercise every day but it's not an option at my current job.
Getting back on topic, Demi Moore looks amazing. I know she's rumored to have spent a fortune on cosmetic surgery but if she did, it was really, really well done. She's got a great, natural style but she can really glam it up when she wants to. As much as I admire her figure, it's her hair that I really covet. I've wanted hair like hers since I saw her in "About Last Night."
Well, south of south america we do take 1 month paid vacation, sleep siesta and all that stuff. And we do take life easier. But uruguay, where my mom lives, is a very europeanized country, and Brasil, where I lived until 8, well that's a different world, taking it easy it's an understatement. I think overworking increases stress, and stress is probably more linked to obesity than just how many hours you work per se. But I sometimes get pissed at home when I order something at a restaurant and it takes hours to arrive. So I think somewhere in the middle would be better.
However, I think I was thinner because I had more time for myself, mainly because I was a student (grad student here, but that's actually a glorified 70 hours a week underpaid job) , lived with my mom and was single. Having a husband and a house to take care of, take time...... and I don't have kids..yet. I still take time to work out regularly (specially because I get paid to make people fitter) , but I don't dance anymore, so no-more 3 hour a day rehersals (that keeps you slim). Also, the dinnerware is smaller, the plates hold 3/4 as much, that helps!!!
Purple, I agree Demi looks amazing. I think people looking at her and saying "well If I could afford all the surgery" are not being fair, without the strict diet and excercise she wouldn't look like that, she clearly puts a lot of effort into it. She is famous for eating raw foods, and she has to work out regularly or she wouldn't look that toned.
Judy: I did not know she was in a magazine as a fashion icon. I have been seeing the trailers for Get Smart and she looks great...PLUS I loved her in The Devil Wears Prada.
Plus I am all for one month paid vacation and siestas. I was so so so close to having a 4 day work week this summer...so sad
Funny.... I was just thinking about the movie "About Last Night" the other day and decided I wanted to see it again. Good story, good acting, and great shots of Chicago. I plan to rent it soon but I still recall the scene where Demi Moore is naked in the kitchen and based on that, it's pretty clear that she's had some "enhancement surgery" since she made it.
There's no question that she's "enhanced" but she was gorgeous to start with. Speaking of "enhanced", is it just me or is Pamela Anderson looking even more "enhanced" than she did before? Good God, why would she do that to herself?
It's Michelle Obama that I meant has now become a STYLE ICON. She and BO were featured in a slide show on the British Observer's web site paired with Jack and Jackie Kennedy no less.
Sorry...I can't get with the Demi mania. Probably because I know how much work she has had done.
Isabella Rosellini and Catherine Deneuve look great as does Juliette Binoche...the Euro women seem to know how to age gracefully without a lot of OBVIOUS work.
I have always loved Candice Bergen but I was shocked at how matronly she looked in Sex and the City. I hope that was just for the role. She is so classically beautiful but she looked as if she had put on weight. I hope that isn't the case.
^ditto about Michelle Obama.. I saw her on The View, and she looked great. Very simple dresses, very very toned arms, and simple and effective make up.
I am LOVING Ann Hathaway and her style. In an interview she said she goes for short minidresses with a turtle neck top. Afterall, she's got miles and miles of legs to flaunt. She's also found normally wearing pretty bold red lips WITH a dark dramatic eye. I want her legs.
^ I loved her in Get Smart! It was good to see her in a non stereotype role. Although there is one scene where she is all decked out in Chanel it looks straight from The Devil Wears Prada. I recommend everyone see it...it was so funny
Haha Judy I totally misread your original comment about Michelle Obama...too funny
I don't like any of today's "styles." They all either seem to have greasy/unwashed hair, dress like hookers, or dress too much like men, think they look good when they really look bad - or in other respects have no class.
I love a lot of the old time styles. Ranging from the 1940s to the 1970s. I'd rather dress like Lucy Ball, for instance, or have Farrah's feathered hair.
I like alot of looks. Not a particular celb one though.
I like the underfed grungy teen look:
converse or vans, hoodie, t-shirt or leather jacket, scarf and skinny jeans look.
with some black eye-liner and a sharp haircut.
but that doesnt go to well in summer.
IN summer the feminine girly spring look is nice:
A short white and pastel coloured floral print dress with a pair of sandals, a cardigan, wavy curled hair, some warm blusher
I really like the Camilla Belle eyebrow (I know, that was so 2008...). Too bad I don't look like her and she's a couple decades younger than I am:) I'm going through a late adolescence when it comes to beauty--never touched my brows (virgin brows) until my early 40's.
