Missing My Hair..... :(
  • Recently I was seen by an dermatologist in 2011. When I recommend to get an biopsy done. The results came back as having Mild Scalp Folliculitis [infection in the hair follicles]. In my thinking I thought it could've been Traction Alopecia. Since I did started braiding my natural hair back in 2003 and in 2005 I started braiding with hair extensions. When I would wear that particular style tight.  The dermatologist prescribe this shampoo called Ketoconazole and topical applications for the scalp. These medications did not work for me, dried out my hair, and my scalp became more irritated. Also I didn't see any growth for my hair. Back in 2009 my hair was growing not as fast as I wanted it to grow. But it did grow slowly. I am one of those people who complain about "My hair is not growing fast enough or it's not growing at all". Well I finally got what I wish for. I did cut my hair in a male low cut to start all over. And within weeks it grew back about 2 inches. But the problem is it didn't grow anymore after that and as of today it is still at the same length. But I do know this that my hair follicles are not damaged. I just don't know why my hair is not growing past this length anymore. So if anyone has any suggestions or advice that they have tried . Or have seen someone else with results. Please feel free to comment. On that note have a Blessed and Wonderful Day .

  • Not a Brain here, but my first question is have you had a checkup more recently than the dermatologist visit back in 2011? The issues with your hair could be an indication of something else happening in your body. So, if you haven't been to see a doctor and spoken with him/her about this, I think an appointment is in order.

That's my two cents worth! :)

  • We are chemists not dermatologist but it seems to me there should be other treatments for folliculitis besides just Ketoconazole which is an antifungal. You might try looking for a different dermatologist that specializes in conditions of the hair and scalp.
