What causes chemophobia?

I find it difficult to educate people on the subject, maybe you can give me some tips!

I think the best tip is this, ask the person who is making a claim (e.g. X chemical is unsafe)

"What evidence would convince you that X chemical is safe?"

If there is no evidence they would accept, then their claim is irrational and not something you can change their mind about.

But just getting people to ask themselves questions plants a seed of doubt in their mind which might lead to a better thought process.
