I read on your blog that koji acid and hydroquinone are not effective in removing acne scars. You also say it is difficult to remove them. Are there any proven methods you could please tell me of? Even something to ask the dermatologist.
How is one supposed to use AHA and BHA in their routine? I need BHA for my abnormal dead skin cell build up and adding AHA at night as well as BHA seems like too much.
@ Ally - From what I have read, you use AHA or BHA, not both. Either one should be used at night. On the nights you use AHA or BHA you should not use retinol or Retin-A products. And you should use a broad spectrum SPF during the day as either one will increase sun sensitivity. (You should be using a broad spectrum SPF 365 days a year anyway, but that is another post...)
I think the general rule of the thumb for deciding between an AHA or a BHA product is AHA's tend to work best for drier skin and BHA's tend to work best for oily skin. But like all rules of thumb there are exceptions to the rule. I use an AHA and I have oily skin. Go figure.
i always use SPF, i think we talked about that numerous times ;)
I used Neostrata AHA, maybe I would like another brand better, but so far it doesn't get rid of my dead skin build up as well as BHA does. and I didn't see any difference in appearance of my scar spots. I don't really feel like trying another brand of AHA as neostrata works well for my KP and I mainly use it on my body.
also my hubby gets acne scars but they go away in about 3 weeks, he has dark skin and I'm very pale but my scars stay for 3 months at least and that with use of numerous whitening skincare products and spf 50+ pa+++, he just used generic spf15 moisturiser in tiny amounts, is there an explanation how his skin regenerates so much quicker? he's also tiny bit older :)
@ Ally - When my skin scars it seems to take forever for it to lighten up too, so I know how you feel on that one! My skin is pale so maybe that is why.
No idea why on your husband's skin acne scars lighten up so much more quickly. Maybe the Brains know the answer to that one.
And, last but not least, sunscreen. Ah yes. It amazes me how something that should be so simple actually isn't once you start thinking about it. I seem to have a bazillion questions on that subject alone!
