What makes La Mer skin care so expensive?

The ingredients in La Mer skin care are pretty ordinary (see reviews on beautypedia.com), but some people love this line, or certain products within it, so for them it's worth the price.

I think it has to do more with image and branding than product quality.

I agree with rozy. La Mer is owned by Estee Lauder, and the company has made La Mer one of their more upscale lines.

I once bought a teeny tiney jar on ebay for 12$ just to try it out...I didn't see any difference it just made me feel fancy in that moment
