  • I use many products with sunscreen together. Moisturizer, then primer, foundation and sometimes even the powder. How do you calculate the SPF? Is whichever product has the highest?
  • No, The SPF of each product add to other in some proportion.
  • Please don't count on makeup products to provide your SPF. You have to use a LOT more than people would normally apply to get SPF protection listed on the label. That being said you don't add the numbers together.

Use a broad spectrum spf of at least 30 every single day. It is the anti-aging product every dermatologist agrees works.

I personally use a mineral based physical sunscreen lotion under my makeup every day. It is a 30+. My dermatologist gave it a thumbs up.

  • make sure your sunscreen has UVA protection pa+++ or equivalent
  • @ Ally -  is the the pa+++ a European labeling? Here in the US you just have numbers and have to read the labels to make sure it is a broad-spectrum sunscreen, protects against UVA & UVB. There are supposed to be labeling changes coming here but they keep getting pushed to a future date.
  • no, it's Asian labelling. I don't think they have labelling law here in EU either, but some brands use Asian labelling and also the original poster should educate themselves what pa+++ means and how it can be implicated in US market before they go shopping for a sunscreen
  • The sunscreen I use was given a thumbs up by the dermatologist when I went in for a skin check. It is Blue Lizard for Faces spf 30+.  It is a physical sunscreen with zinc oxide.  http://www.bluelizard.net/

With a family history of skin cancer I try to be extra vigilant about sunscreen.
