Why do I injure myself while filing my nails and or make them jagged?
  • So I just bought a file and I was oh so happy because I thought I finally figured out how to use them right and I was like look mom I'm doing it right!! And then I had this stabbing pain in my middle finger, and I found out that I sawed like half of the nail off in a diagonal jagged line and its bleeding and every little movement of it hurts. I dont know why I always hurt myself doing this or make it look so bad I have googled and read about how to properly file them but I dont get it. I will post pics soon. I showed my mom and she was like what the f?
  • I actually hate nails I think they are so annoyingly high maintenance and annoying I wonder if I can get all my nails permently removed because they irritate me. I dont really like my eyebrows so I just want to wax it all completely off. No this is not a joke. Wonder what other peoples opinion is. Thanks.

  • Nails should be filed in one direction only, from the side towards the center. No sawing back and forth!

I use a glass nail file now and have found it is much better. No sharp edges and my nails have stopped splitting and cracking. (Of course that could also have something to do with the biotin supplements I began taking 5-6 months ago, but the glass nail file certainly isn't hurting anything!)

Nails do require maintenance rozy but they are very much worth the time and effort you spend on them. Having your nails nicely done gives a finished and put together aspect to your overall look. And eyebrows? Have you had them shaped by a professional? Perhaps your hairdresser could help you with them? Beautifully shaped brows, again, lend polish to your overall look.

Hang in there. It can be tough trying to figure things out but I promise you it IS worth the effort.
    :)
  • p.s. From the picture the nail does look painful. It will grow out. And you have amazing eyebrows. They just need shaped properly. A few strays gone here and there. Make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing and don't let them make your brows thin. Just get the strays. You will look amazing.
  • Yeah I usually get them waxed but I cant afford the upkeep. Cant find a job in my little town. They do have a nice arch when they are shaped. THANK U I never understood how do it properly that simple explanation was all I needed the stuff I read on the internet didnt make any sense. It actually was a glass file! But I sawed the crap out of them like it was a hack saw. I feel better now though because my dad broke his finger at work with a sledge hammer and you can see the bone. Well better as in im not suffering as much as him. He wont even go to the emergency he worked all day at work with the broken finger with no ice and now he wont go to emerg??/ :/ men are puzzling creatures.
  • Glass files are a new discovery for me. I am VERY pleased with mine!

Sorry to hear about your Dad. He really should go on to have a doctor take care of the finger. That could set up into something really nasty.
  • I know he needs to take it more serious and hes working today,
  • I also am sorry to hear about your Dad, and about your poor fingernail.  I know how much that hurts (I've torn off my nail like that.) About filing a nail, yes to what lindygirl said. For myself, to not mess up nail filing I have to do it in a place that is well-lit, and give it my full attention. Well, I do listen to the radio. And I have to file slowly so I don't overdo it. Filing the way Lindygirl says to do, I pretty much have to look at what I'm doing and go slowly. And not under the influence of whatever impairs my coordination , like alcohol, and too much caffeine.

  • Good tip thanks for that I will need to give it full attention from now on.
