How to stengthen your hair?
  • Is there any thing that is proven to strengthen and maybe protect hair from breakage and damage?
By damage I mean from friction, heat, wind, etc.
I saw this product from Mane N Tail that claims to help strengthen it and I've heard that horsetail might be able to..

    Here's a link to it: http://manentail.com/products/hair-strengthener

Or does nothing really "strengthen" your hair, just protect it??

What are your thoughts and have any of you tried a product that worked for you?

  • I haven't used the product you linked to but I used the Mane N Tail Conditioner, a rinse out, for a short time. It is not friendly for color-treated hair and I no longer use it. I did notice the one you linked to contains a non-water soluble silicone, if that matters to you. Some people like to avoid them.

I have been using Redken CAT protein treatment spray once a week to stop breakage as per my hairdresser's recommendation. At my last appointment we discussed perhaps my changing to using a protein rinse out conditioner after cleaning my scalp and hair (either with conditioner - most days - or shampoo twice a week). I have been using Biotera conditioner made for color treated hair since and the results are not in yet. That product is available at some online sites and at Sally Beauty Supply.

Biotin supplements seem to be helping reduce the amount of breakage I was getting. Biotin supplements also help nails.

Silk or satin pillowcases can help in preventing breakage and damage because your hair slides across them easily when you are turning while sleeping. Less friction = less breakage and less frizz.

That is about all I can think of right off on the subject. I don't know much about the Mane N Tail line other than that one experience with the rinse out conditioner. Hopefully the Brains can tell you something that might work.
  • I haven't used this product, but it recently pop up on one of the 'beauty guru's' instagram and a lot of girls/women were commenting that it made their hair stronger, more manageable and grow faster. I'd say 70% said it worked for them and 30% it made their hair very dry and didn't do much
  • Thanks for the tips, lindygirl1960. I'm going to start taking a hair and nails supplement soon and try for less breakage in my hair too..

I think I'll try the Mane N Tail and see how it goes... this is after all just the beginning for my better hair care journey.

  • Jasmine Honey Moisturizing Hair Treatment

In a hydrating treatment of Nuka Beauty Jasmine Honey Moisturizing Hair Treatment, Its helps to repair and condition hair. Its contains essential oils of rosemary formulated with Oryza Sativa & honey extract to seal & nourish hair.Apply & massage into damp or dry hair. Leave in for 20 - 30 minutes rinse well. It will give good result.
  • @ EmmaNelia - I just take plain Biotin. I picked it up at our local WalMart. It was cheaper than vitamins labeled specifically for hair and nails and contained all I needed. Remember it takes several months before you will see results.

Also, with the Mane N Tail my hairdresser mentioned he was concerned about possible buildup on my hair with the particular product from their line I had tried. It has a wax ingredient in it. I would think that if you wash your hair with even a sulfate free shampoo a couple of times a week the shampoo would take care of it. (His concern was that I conditioner or co-wash the other days of the week.) I figured since it was not color friendly it was best to not use it anyway.

Good luck on your journey towards better hair care!
