How likely is it that you will get skin cancer from gel nails?

Would putting sunblock on your fingers before getting a gel mani help? Do any of the forum members think they are worth the risk?
  • won't be able to put sunblock, as they need very clean and dry surface for the gel to adhere. they usually swipe your nail with some acetone prior to application to removed any oily residue
  • I would think that sunscreen would protect your skin around the nail bed. The nail polish itself should absorb UV radiation so it doesn't pass through your nail to the skin beneath it. But that's just my guess.
  • also, isn't the curing time like 1 minute? would that be enough to cause damage? also uv lamps produce only uvb waves, don't they?
