Can eyeshadow primer stop working?
  • Hello, I have recently noticed that my eye shadows are creasing like crazy, like 3.5 years ago before I started using primers. I used MAC paintpot in painterly for those 3.5 years and the last pot is probably 1.5 years old, but hasn't dried up yet and is still very creamy consistency. I switched to the sample of Urban Decay Primer potion and that creased as well. I have very oily lids and eyeshadow creases after 3-4 hours. I'm not sure what to do. I tried not moisturising my eye area and not putting sunscreen to see if it makes a difference, but it was exact same creasing result. I should mention I powder my lids with a light dusting of chanel loose powder. I googled the phenomenon and found a post from a girl experiencing the exact same thing - she get immune to the primer after awhile http://www.luuux.com/health-beauty/immune-eye-primer Any explanation and advice? The UDPP is also 1.5-2 years old most probably... don't think it could be the age of the product, as the first paintpot I had lasted me over 2 years and never creased.
  • Could it be expired?? Perhaps the climate changed where you are or you are sweating more and its going into your eyes.
  • no sweating issues here, don't think it's expired either, it just stopped working. these kind of products dry up, but don't lose their ability to work as a primer.
  • Ally have you tried applying your powder with a puff to your eyelids? So there is more of a base under the eyeshadow? So primer, then powder applied with a puff, then shadow. Maybe that would help?

Applying with a puff gives a denser coverage. Maybe just tweaking your routine is all it would take. :)
  • lindygirl, I will give that I go, but pretty sure it will fail. And this doesn't explain why both primers stopped working all of a sudden. I will try and get samples of Too Faced eyeshadow insurance and Nars primer as well and see how it goes... Have a feeling my eyelids became immune to primers (facepalm)
  • I hope you find something that works for you Ally. That has to be a frustrating problem. I just use my regular primer that I use on my face on my eyelids too. It isn't anything fancy. But it works for me and I am satisfied as long as it works.
    :)
  • oh that's nice :D and cost efficient as well
