I'm Jodie, a 36 year old mom to 3 under 5 and trying to get my crazy skin under control.
  • Hello all,

I am a 36 yo mom to a 5,4 and 7 month old. I try to take care of my skin and over the past 6 months I've become somewhat of a skin care product junkie. Products I'm using are Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum (fragrance free), Olay Pro-x wrinkle smoothing cream, Roc Multi correction night treatment, Neostrata Level 3 smoothing lotion (10%), and just recently I bought some Awesome Sauce from silk naturals. Like it but have a sneaking suspicion it might be causing some zits. I'm breastfeeding so trying to determine if hormones or the sauce is the culprit.

Anyways, I'm not only very into researching products and how/why they work, I'm also trying to create a "perfect" regimen lol. One that gets rid of my fine lines but also trying to get rid of zits that appear on my chin sporadically. I'm using Neutrogena Stress Free Acne lotion and sore pimple gel for that. I'm on the fence about the stress free acne lotion but love the sore pimple gel. Another product I bought recently that I love is Olays spin brush for cleansing. This awesome little gadget really cleans without being too harsh. I use either Aveeno Skin Brightening Cleanser or Roc Pore minimizing cleanser and love the clean, soft skin I get using it.

I'm happy I stumbled on this site. I'm really getting into learning about ingredients in skin care and what I should look for and avoid. I'm also curious about making sure products I use are compatible and learning how to optimize my routine to get the most bang or my buck. I'd really love to add a good Vit C product and am eyeing Dr Dennis Gross Hydrapure vitamin C skin brightening serum. The price is giving me pause but I'm hoping to get a sample next time I go shopping. I'd surely want to test it out before sinking big bucks on it.

I look forward to getting to know you all! And learning a lot too :)
  • If you do find out the silk naturals stuff bothered your skin I wouldnt be surprised I have had tons of crazy reactions from "natural" products including really bad forehead acne especially around the hairline. It was nasty and it didnt go away until I got off the kiss my face stuff or as i like to call it kiss my butt. i think the effects of hormones on skin condition tend to be really overlooked but they can play a huge role, its hard to be able to rule out childbirth because it changes the body so much. You may want to ask a derm or family doc what options there are for treating hormonal acne. When I was a younger teen I had acne really bad and I never understood why because I washed my face with special cleanser twice a day, and I had heard that people with acne where dirty which I wasn't. Birth control, finacea gel, birth control, antibiotics and accutane where the only things that worked for me. I am not exactly sure how treating hormonal acne would be different than treating other types... isn't awesome sauce an expression too? I find it extremely creepy.
  • Jodie,No offence.
I find that you are a kind of lady who loves to try different products, tried out many and is still looking for something amazing. I am very similar to you. I don't use so many products but an all in one product for my daily skincare regimen. You must have heard about the world famous Lifecell anti aging cream. It helps me in reducing my wrinkles, fine lines, age spots , dark circles and uneven skin tone. I think you must give it a try and regarding your experiments I loved it.
  • Cleansing , exfoliating and moisturising your skin will help you. You may also apply Aloe Vera on your face. It will heal all your skin problems.
  • Hi Jodie,
Unfortunately there is no 'one size fits all' with skin care. What works for one person may or may not work for another.  It pays to try new products slowly. Do a spot test on the skin on the inside of your elbow before you put something new all over your face. At least you will know if you are going to have an allergic reaction to it.

The Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control, 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment (a BHA product) you mentioned is a great product. You should only use it at night. I have not read many reviews on the Roc product you are using, but it appears to have some form of retinol in it and should, of course, be used only at night. DO NOT use the retinol product and the BHA product together. Alternate nights or use the BHA only a couple of nights a week. Those cancel each other out if used together if I understand what I read correctly.

The Olay Pro-X product I personally would not use due to the jar packaging. (At least I think I was looking at the right product!)

The Olay serum is a good product. I use that one myself. Just be forewarned that you should not use that one with a vitamin C product. The niacinamide and vitamin C cancel each other out and it makes both ingredients ineffective.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to get good products that work well.

Two other websites with good info on products to possibly try are makeupalley.com and beautypedia.com. You do have to join those site, but it is free.

Above all use a broad spectrum spf 30 sunscreen every single day. That will help you to prevent wrinkles more than anything else you can do!

Maybe the Brains will have something to add. (Especially if I goofed and got some of my info wrong.)

    Hope that helps.
