  • Hi Everyone,
I am a 33 year old wife and mother of three. I stumbled upon this site by accident. I was on here for a while yesterday reading about all sortsof things. I like that there are so many of you willing to share your own experiences. It is very overwhelming shopping these days for beauty products. I am never sure what to use or buy. I have very fair skin and have had some bad reactions to products. I just want to find the best products out there for my skin issues without breaking the bank. Any information will always be happily accepted. Thanks in advance.
  • Welcome Molly! If you have sensitive skin like I do, you might find this blog helpful.

The discussions are broken up by skin types. They talk a lot about which products work for them, and what doesn't. One of the things they have been talking about, and loving is using baby washes like Johnson and Johnson and Aveeno as face cleanser and shampoo. I might have to give that a try.
  • Hello Molly,
Thanks so much for stopping by.  You'll find that the people here on the Beauty Brains forum are incredible.  Everyone can learn a lot here from each other.
  • Focus on the basics and don't get sucked in by rediculous claims. You need to cleanse, moisturize and protect your skin from the sun. (The last is especially important since you've got fair skin.) Effective, well-researched and reasonably priced products that do all of these things can be found in any drug store. We all have our personal favorites that we love to talk about. If you give us a little more information about your skin type (dry, oily, acne-prone, etc) we can be more specific.
Since I already know you need a good sunscreen, Neutrogena oil free, dry touch sunscreen with helioplex is very popular here. It provides effective, full-spectrum protection and it's not at all oily so you can use it under makeup.
  • Hi PurpleRules,
Like I stated I do have very fair skin. I never had acne as a child or teenager, but since I had my last child soon, to be six years old, I have been having many breakouts. I have tried popular treatments, but have had horrible reactions to them. I have had peeling and burning sensations. When I would use them I felt like my face was on fire. I use a mineral makeup and have for the last few years. I moisturize daily with Oil of Olay for sensitive skin and use an Oil of Olay eye cream. I noticed that my skin has become blotchy. I try not to go out into the sun for extended periods of time and when I do I use a sunscreen of 50+. I went to Sephora a couple of weeks ago. They recommended a natural brand called Boscia for the acne. I like the feel of the product. It doesn't burn or cause any peeling, but I don't see any real improvement yet. I will keep using it as long as I don't have any adverse reactions to it. Any help would be great. I am all for finding quality products at modest prices. Thanks!!!!
  • Hi Molly! I have problems with my face being super sensitive to products, as well. The burning you describe always takes a few days to go away before I feel like I've recovered.
Three products that don't burn and give me relief are DHC Rich Moisture, Caudalie Moisturizing Cream Mask for Face and Eyes, and Atopalm MLE Cream.
I am older than you are, though, so I don't have a problem with acne. I can't tell you how you might react with these on that front (although any of them should be returnable); I only can recommend these to soothe your angry skin! Good luck and please let us know what works for you.
  • I can't make that strange last sentence go away above, no much how I try and edit. All I did was cut and paste product names in!
  • Hi Karen,

When I was at Sephora the other week the woman who recommended Boscia also said to try the Caudalie line. She said that the Vinoperfect serum works really well for her. I thought that I should try to get the acne under control first with the Boscia. But I like the fact that both lines are more natural and are preservative free. I wrote down the ones you have suggested and will do a little more research on it. Thank you .
  • @Karen,
    All fixed!
  • Karen,

Glad to hear you liked the Atopalm cream.
  • Yes, it's great stuff! Thanks!!!
