What is really the best eye cream ???
  • Hello ! I am 22 and I am not loving the skin around my eyes. I use clinique's eye cream but, I am looking for something better with spf. I do not mind spending $$$$ as long as it is really worth it. I am looking for moisture, spf preferably 15-20, and I would like for it to have something for the wrinkles. Any help? Tell me what your using and how its working for you. Thank you !!!!
  • Hi
You might want to go view the videos at www.cosmeticscop.com.  Paula Begoun notes that one of the downfalls of eye treatments is the lack of SPF.  She also notes that the ingredients are the same as other face treatments, so you really don't need one if you have a good overall face treatment.  That said....
I use Smashbox's SPF Primer around my eyes and on my cheeks for SPF over my normal antioxidant/moisturizer :    http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P140903&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=3990.  If you like your current moisturizer or eye cream, you might try that.  I have oily T-zone so Cosmedicine's Oil Control SPF 20 does nose, chin, forehead over matte antioxidant serum.  http://sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P131811&categoryId=C12912.
Two notes about Smashbox:  one -  the clear packaging.  Good ingredients don't like light (or air. which is why the pump)  I keep it in a drawer.  Also,1 of 3 times I purchased, the pump didn't work (I returned and got another, YMMV).   I have linked to Sephora but I believe these are available at Ulta also.

  • I love Teamine Eye Complex. It has proven anti-aging ingredients in it. It's sold at dermatologists' offices for about $55 a jar. I have found it for less on eBay. A jar lasts for more than six months. I use it at night and it is THE best eye cream I've ever used for my lower lids. No fine lines after about three months of use and I definitely had some before I started using it.
For daytime, I apply sunscreen and also use Olay Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum which sells for $19 almost anywhere. I keep a small bottle in my purse and it is the perfect thing to use  to refresh your undereye makeup. Just put a dab on, lightly blend it into the makeup that's under your eyes and presto! You instantly look refreshed.........AND you are applying more anti-aging ingredients in the process.
  • Thanks, I'm still investigating I'll look into the suggestions !

I've been looking into the Teamine Eye Complex, it seems that a lot of people like it because it helps with the dark circles. What does it do for the fine lines? Any other suggestions for the fine lines?
  • Karen,

I decided it was finally time to try the Teamine Eye Complex. I found it at http://www.lovelyskin.com/products.asp?mode=anywords&searchtext=teamine+eye+complex&go.x=0&go.y=0

They have it on sale for $43.50. I got quick delivery, free shipping, free samples, and a coupon for $10.00 off my next purchase.. I just received it today, so don't know how well it will work for me yet. I've just recently gotten wrinkles under my eyes, and hate them. I've never had wrinkles, and don't like them one bit. Hopefully this cream will rid me of them.
  • Anne: That jar is going to last you a really long time because "a little dab'll do ya!"
I hope you find it as effective as I have. While its claim-to-fame is reducing dark circles under the eyes, you might have noticed on the box that it says "Teamine Eye Complex reduces the appearance of dark circles, puffiness, lines, and wrinkles".
I researched this one carefully. Based on both Paula Begoun's book The Complete Beauty Bible and the authors of Secrets of the Beauty Insiders, here are its effective anti-aging ingredients:

    Palmitoyl pentapeptide
    Green tea extract
Vitamin C & E (although they don’t specify if it is L-ascobic acid, the essential form)
    Grape seed oil
    Solanum lycopersicum (tomato extract)/lycopene
Urea retinyl palmitate (a form of Vitamin A, although retinol is the preferred form)

One of the best tips from Secrets of the Beauty Insiders when sorting through LOI might be this: "Use a host of antioxidants. Don't buy a product with just one ingredient in it; you'll be missing out on half a dozen others. We gain from using several different antioxidants because we increase the chances of having effective antioxidants at crucial attack points. Look for products to consolidate them."
The authors' essential antioxidant list also included coenzyme Q10, emblica, and beta carotene. These are NOT in Teamine Eye Complex. I know DHC has products with coenzyme Q10 but only that antioxidant. Does anyone know of other eye creams that have these additional essential ingredients?

  • As already mentioned Paula Begoun doesn't believe in eye creams  because she believes you can get the same results and SAVE money by just using a good anti-oxidant moisturizer with SPF.  Her suggestions include:
    1) Olay Regenerist line
    2) Neutrogena's Healthy Defense SPF30 Daily Eye Cream
    3) Estee Lauder's Re-Nutritive Revitalizing Comfort Eye Cream (gets marked down for jar packaging though).
I think that any of her anti-oxidant serums are great and LOADED with anti-oxidants.  I have used her original Super Anti-Oxidant Serum for awhile now and like it very much.  She has 3 of them priced at around $24.  They vary slightly in ingredients.

  • I didn't know Neutrogena makes an eye cream with sunscreen. I'm going to try it. I'm using one of the La Roche Posay (sp? too lazy to look it up) eye creams. It's fine but it doesn't have sunscreen and they just jacked the price up from $30 to $35.
  • Judy -  Here are my thoughts on what Paula says about it.
While she says you don't need a special eye cream and recommends using a good product with sunscreen for your entire face, I don't follow her recommendation for this reason: Sunscreens tell you to avoid getting them in your eyes. I like to apply my eye cream both under and on my lid, as well as a small amount right up to lashline. You can't do that if the product you're using has sunscreen in it. I do use a sunscreen (actually, one of hers!) religiously under my makeup every day (with PG's Regenerist eye serum) but I only apply it directly under the brow and near my eyes, underneith. But if I'm not super careful and I get the sunscreen too close or if it's hot and I sweat, the sunscreen really burns my eyes and causes redness which is probably why they warn you not to get it it in your eyes. Additionally, when I apply my Teamine Eye Complex, I use it at night so a sunscreen isn't needed. Some eye creams also have special ingredients that address undereye darkness which a facial product wouldn't. Also, I've never found a product that actually got rid of the fine lines under my eyes until I started using Teamine Eye Complex, and I think I've used some good ones! Most of the time I'm with her.... but for this, I'm definitely sticking with my Teamine at night!
  • What about "Osmotics Eye Surgery"....never tried it but it seems to get massively great reviews...here are the ingredients.

    Ingredients:
Ingredients: Purified Water, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Titanium Dioxide, Stearic Acid, Glycerine, Steareth-20, Hydroxysuccinimide, Chrysin, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-3, Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone, Dipeptide-2, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ergothioneine, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), PEG-100 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerol Stearate, Carbomer, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Tromethamine, Sodium EDTA.
  • aspenstar: In the LOI, I'm seeing different peptides which are considered anti-aging ingredients, as well as Vitamin E; also sodium hyaluronate and urea which are good for softening skin; titanium dioxide is a sunscreen. Looks like there are some effective ingredients in it!
I've never heard of it myself but we all love hearing about new products. Anyone else familiar with it?
  • Does anyone have any experience with the Pharmagel line? They claim pharamceutical ingredients combined with botanicals. The products are used by estheticians for facials in salons. Their web site is very open with regards to the ingredients, what they do, and how to use the products. To make it even better, they provide a pdf with step by step instructions on how to give the facials for different skin conditions!

I recently ordered a starter kit from them and have like the products so far. I really like the quickly absorbing Vitamin C serum, but after reading information about topical vitamin C on BB I am skeptical of its effectiveness. I am thinking of ordering Eye Prote and thought I would get your advice first. The most relevant ingredient in Eye Prote is Perfluorodecalin. It is a "remarkable oxygen booster, medically tested and used during eye surgeries for rapid tissue repair".

This is an entire list of ingredients:

Achillea Millefolium Extract Antiinflammatory Ethylparaben Preservative
    Allantoin Calming Methylparaben Preservative
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Humectant Perfluorodecalin Repairs Tissue
    Butylparaben Preservative Phenoxyethanol Preservative
C12-20 Acid PEG-8 Ester Emulsifier Propylene Glycol Humectant
Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract Firming Propylparaben Preservative
Caprylic/Capric/Myristic/Stearic Triglyceride Emollient Purified Water Solvent
Carbomer Emulsifier Squalane (Vegetable Source) Humectant
Cetearyl Alcohol Emulsifier Tetrasodium EDTA Preservative
Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract Calming Tocopherol (Vit E.) Antioxidant
    Dicetyl Phosphate Emilsifier

    Thanks in advance ladies!
  • Speaking of eye creams, does anyone find that during the day, eye creams make your eye liner SMEAR?
I put SPF around my eyes during th day, then put some eyeliner, and some powder over the eyeliner, and seriously, in like 5 minutes, my eyeliner is already smearing!
What can I do about this? The SPF around my eyes is a MUST, so I can't stop using that. Right now I use stila eyeliner in black.
I heard that the stila smuge pot is great in terms of not smearing. Any experience with this? Is there a some kind of pencil you buy that helps with the application?
    Thanks!
  • Why not try putting powder on top of your eyecream so the creaminess doesn't melt eyeliner?
And I use the stila smudge pot almost everyday.  I
  • I just wanted to thank all of you for your contribution to my question! I am saving up for that teamine complex cream, hopefully in time for Christmas. I've also used the olay regenerist eye serum. Its okay it just leaves my under eye skin soft, but I dont see anything else happening. Thanks you guys. . . .
  • Eye liner and eye creams just don't mix well. You either have to keep the cream far enough away from the eye liner that it won't cause the liner to break down and run down your face, which is harder to do than you'd think, or use a gel eye treatment during the day and use the cream only at night.
