Professional Blow Dryer
  • I'm looking for a new blow dryer. I want to get a professional grade so it will hopefully last longer. Do any of you have a blow dryer you love?
  • Personally, NO.  I had to replace mine last year and I found them all HEAVY and COMPLICATED and NOISY.  Mine is the Revlon Ionic Tourmaline...ABSOLUTELY no difference from the lighter travel one I used to have but could not find any more. Grrrrr.  When I first used it my wrist actually ached from the weight of it.  Grrrrrr.
I think my hair dresser told me that Sharper Image has one that was lightweight, dual voltage, and quiet.  He said one of his fellow stylists used it, bought the extended warentee, and just kept turning it in for a new one.

  • I've gone through more blow dryers than I care to think about. The majority of them are just made so poorly. After having issues with them not lasting a year but still being under warranty, I finally went out and bought a second one as my back-up for when I'd send back the one that wasn't working. Then, the back-up one would quit. Once they go back once, they're no longer under warranty even if it quits after a few months......so you have to go buy a new one. Ridiculous!
I now own a Tourmaline Wigo Lite. It was more expensive ($60 at Ulta but I bought it when they had a 20% off sale and I used a 20% off coupon on top of that.) I decided it was silly to keep throwing money away on cheap ones. I've had it for more than a year and it's still going strong! I also like the fact that it has a diffuser for when I go curly.
  • After checking the internet for reviews, I ended up ordering this Elchim hair Dryer.
    http://www.misikko.com/elchim-uragano-ionic-hair-dryer.html
I found it on ebay for $89.00. Its made in Italy, and is suppose to be well built. It got the '05 Allure award for best dryer. The T3 dryer's are very popular right now, but several people said the motors started shooting sparks after a few months. The T3's are not cheap either!

Hopefully it won't be to much longer before I get it.

Karen..you're lucky you can go curly or straight. My hair is so straight, I can't even get it to take a curl with a curling iron. I don't fight it anymore, and just let it be straight. I did try perming it a few times, but it was just too damaging to my hair.
  • Good luck, Anne, with what you got.  I don't get the ionic nor the tourmaline business AT ALL.  Luckily my hair is short so I don't need anything beyond a basic unit...which, of course, doesn't exist anymore.
  • Thanks Judy! My hair is shorter, but thick. I'm hoping it will shorten the time to dry it.

I don't know how reliable the information is, but ions are suppose to make the water molecules smaller so the hair drys quicker and with less damage. The smaller water molecules are suppose to be able to sink into, and moisturize your hair, rather than steaming the water off your hair like a traditional dryer. The tourmaline is suppose to make the ions negative rather than positive, which is suppose to be better for some reason. They even have dryers , I think with some type of silver, that is suppose to kill bacteria. I don't know how much of it is factual, I just want to get my hair dry faster with out too much damage, and the dryer to last. Of course if it makes my hair look smoother and shinier, I would not complain.
  • My Revlon thing has an OFF and ON button for the ion feature but I can't say I notice ANY difference between them.
The only positive thing I can say about this dryer is that it has separate settings for heat/temp and wind velocity.  Oh no...there is one other.  If I get a HOT FLASH as I am getting ready in the morning I can use the low setting to cool myself off!
Let us know how you like your new beauty gadget.
  • I finally got my new blow dryer, and I do like it. The electrical cord on it is longer and thicker than any other dryer I've had. It has great air flow, and leaves my hair nice and in control. It will take a lot longer to know how well it will last, but so far I like it. Its a little heavier than my old dryer, but I think it dries my hair faster, so the weight doesn't bother me.
  • I got sucked into the hype of the CHI dryers and bought one. Used it once and knew it wasn't worth the exorbitant amount of money I paid for it. So I returned it and got a Revlon 1875 Tourmaline Ionic at Bed, Bath and Beyond, I think it was around $40. I really like it and am absolutely sure it dries my hair faster than my old, cheap Conair one. I really noticed because I hung on to the Conair one and took it with me to Brazil (figuring if it got zapped in some weird voltage issue, it wouldn't matter too much) and Boston. I noticed that it seemed to take a while to dry my hair with it and definitely noticed when I got back that the Revlon dries it much faster. It feels less dry, too, which is nice. So that is definitely my hair dryer recomendation.
  • I recommend you a great hair dryer that works really nice, it's the Karmin G3 Salon Pro Hair Dryer which is the best one I've tried, it works to add shine, softness and faster drying,
seals the cuticle, repels humidity and locks in hair color.  I totally recommend it :D if you are interested you can check it out at safrons. com :) hope it helps. :P
