Hi I was reading this article: http://www.futurederm.com/2008/07/22/introducing-the-best-sunscreen-yet-tinosorb/ and I was wondering why even though this was published in 2008 I still cant find any sunscreen with this as an active ingredient at my local wart-mal (wal-mart). You'd think with all the benefits more brands would be using this. I have burning reactions to some sunscreen ingredients and I my walmart doesnt even sell something with zinc/titanium. *annoyed face* I just bought a new sunblock to try without octinoxate hopefully I dont react to this one. I also contacted Dermstore to ask if they sell any sunscreen with this as the active ingredient and she said they don't and she hasn't heard of it so I sent her the Futurederm article.
Damn I forgot about this article ( http://thebeautybrains.com/2011/05/29/is-octocrylene-a-safe-sunscreen/ ) thinking my burning sensation must be coming from oxctinoxate but my new sunblock has this stuff in it which also could probably be causing my reactions damn! Looks like some more company calling first treseme now this lol hope they dont think I'm fibbing. I get an intense burning sensation from every sunblock I have used and I think it is either or both of these ingrediants that cause it. It also makes my skin look like I got a bad sunburn. They only places that sell zinc/titanium based sunscreens is in the health food section which means its expensive but I'm going to have to invest in something that does hurt me I also get contact dermatis from antiperspirants and deordants and a natural deodorant with lavender oil and clay which made the forumla very hard going on your skin so I have to invest in crystal deodorant the only thing I have tried that doesnt give me a reaction even though crystal is usually more expensive. :( Most natural deodorants I have used suck too I also tried a tea tree one which irritated me and was super hard going on etc not to mention the price is so high I just threw out like 4 natural deodorants I tried that did not work recently so I am glad I have something that works now I have been using liquid crystal for months with no problems. I find it interesting how different everyones skin acts if I could I would just use antiperspirant cheapest most effective most convenient option. I've learn a lot from the BB, so thanks!
Yes that is such a complete lie any oil will make UV rays penetrate deeper u know in the old days people would tan with baby oil? Coconut oil alone is not an approved UV protectant. I have seen natural companies try to say their formula with green tea antioxidants and what not is a sunscreen but that simply isnt true you are getting mislead there was a post last summer about a supplement that claims itself to be an effective sunscreen that really wasnt because supplements arent regulated so it was making false and misleading drug claims I am sure the brains will link to it! Also my doctor says vitamin d supplements are the only supplements with evidence most of the medical field has accepted so go ahead and take some of them if you feel you are not getting enough vitamin d, it is easy nowadays to get enough of it and also protect our skin! If you would prefer something natural use zinc and titanium based sunscreens, you can often get these with organic moisturizers and probably even coconut oil!
Rozy I don't know if this will help any but I personally use a product called Blue Lizard for face 30+. I buy mine from drugstore.com because I cannot get it locally. Maybe that would be an option for you?
It looks expensive until you realize that it stays on really well. According to their website their sunscreen is clinically proven to stay on 240 minutes in a whirlpool. That's pretty good. I sort of figure that, while it might cost a little more initially, the cost kind of evens out because you don't have to reapply so often.
My skin is oily and sensitive and this one has worked for me. The dermatologist gave it a big thumbs up too.
The only sunscreen I have found with tinosorb s is Eucerin and even though this ingredient is approved in Canada I havent seen it in any store in Canada!http://www.eucerin.com/product-finder/sun-protection/1/ Ive read posts that say its in Avene sunscreen but maybe it changed because now its just a zinc/ti formula.
damn so I found somewhere in Canada that sells it but it also contains octocrylene which I am pretty sure I am allergic too though I am not completely sure if its that or octinoxate. http://www.murale.ca/8282-Bioderma_Photoderm-SFP-60-Cream.aspx Or it could be both of them all I know is when I put on sunscreens with that in it I have an intense burning sensation and redness.
