Is "Better Than False Lashes" different from other mascaras?
  • I recently read about a new Too-Faced product, called "Better Than False Lashes." It uses a tube of mascara and a tube of nylon fibers. Has anyone tried this, because it sounds interesting. Too-Faced promotes it as an alternative to false lashes, not as an alternative to your current mascara. Whatever.

Are there any ingredients in these two products (the two tubes) that are different than other mascaras? Are there any ingredients that would make it an improvement on other mascaras? This is the ingredients list that I have copied from their website:

    Ingredients:

Activating Mascara and Top Coat: Water/Aqua/Eau, Acrylates Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Paraffin, Ozokerite, Phenyl Trimethicone, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Stearic Acid, PVP, Glycol Montanate, Cera Alba/Beeswax/Cire d’abeille, Triethanolamine, Silica, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Hydrogenated Palm Acid, Stearyl Stearate, Synthetic Wax, Nylon-66, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Black 2 (CI 77266).

Flexistretch Nylon Fibers: Nylon-66, Dimethicone, Paraffinum Liquidum/Mineral Oil/Huile minérale, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

  • From what I've seen, it seems to be the same as any of your other fibre mascaras, attaching little fibres to your lashes before coating them all together with more or less normal mascara. All of them seem to have mixed reviews as far as the actual results go.
  • That list you posted sounds kind of scary, I wear contacts so I would never put all those unnatural ingredients near my eyes. I also think that those fibers will eventually flake and fall off. I have tried a a natural eyelash serum that really grew my lashes stronger and longer. Cost more than mascara, but really worth it :)
  • @beautyreviews I dont know how long you have been on here but synthetic does not equal dangerous or bad and natural does not mean safe. I am a little bit suspious you posted a link in your answer also. Anywho sometimes natural cosmetics can be more dangerous and prone to bacterial growth because they are not preserved properly. Plant extracts can be extremely irritating on sensitive skin, I have personally got contact dermatitis from natural cosmetics. In my opinion they are certainly not worth the price.
To answer your question there is a lady who blogs and apparently has the most mascara reviews on the web and she has reviewed many of mascaras who make such claims and has not had any luck. Her blog is called clumps of mascara check it out. Here is a quote on a product with similar claims: "I am of the belief that NO mascara can give you the illusion of false
lashes. Unless of course you already have insanely long and thick lashes
to begin with. But for the rest of us people with smaller or shorter
lashes, finding a mascara that can really volumize AND lengthen to the
point that our lashes actually look “faux” is virtually impossible." http://clumpsofmascara.com/2012/12/laura-mercier-faux-lashes-mascara.html
