Best Non-comedogenic moisturizers for combination skin
  • Hello,

My skin is normal / sometimes combination skin. Can you recommend some good non-comedogenic facial moisturizers (with and without SPF) that will be good for normal / combination skin? I currently use Nivea, which leaves a nice glow on my face every day, but I'm not sure it's non-comedogenic.

    Thanks for your help!

  • Olay Complete is a good one with SPF. I have the SPF30+ one but you might have different varieties locally. I found it really good when my skin wasn't so oily but I've had to switch it up a bit lately. As far as non-SPF, my favourite is Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream. It's expensive and designed for normal/dry skin but it does a great job of retaining just enough moisture to be comfortable without greasing my skin up. You only need a tiny amount, too, which means it ends up being better value that you think. For cheaper options, maybe try the Yes To range or Neutrogena. Generally, though, if a moisturiser is designed for use on the face and is dermatologically tested, it should be non-comedogenic. Ranges designed for oily/acne prone skin are sometimes more obvious in their labelling, so they might be a good place to start.
  • You can use the makeupalley.com to narrow down your list of possibles. You can filter by skin type and see what has worked for others with skin similar to yours.
  • I like CeraVe moisturizers and cleansers. I started using their new one about a month ago: CeraVe Renewing Lotion. It has a little BHA in it. It makes my skin smoother and helps avoid breakouts. I got it at Drugstore.com because I haven't seen it in any stores. Also it is unscented and has none of the ingredients that I'm allergic to. An even more gentle one is their basic moisturizer, just called CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion. Both of these are for the whole body but they work fine on my face. Then they have two facial moisturizing lotions, one with SPF for daytime and one with niacinamide for night. That one makes my face red because I'm sensitive to niacinamide, but it's probably good for most people. I haven't tried their SPF one because I just love my sunscreen--Kinesys unscented.

  • I would say yes to the Neutrogena one. I tend to have good luck with glycerin as a moisturiser. It's a nice cheap option at least, so it's definitely worth a try. Try and find an SPF one for day use that works for you too :)
