Get yourselves measured, ladies!
  • Here's an online article from Medical News Today that tells us we need to wear the correct size bra....or else!

  • OH YEAH...this is one of the EASIEST things anyone can do to feel better.  It changes your posture and torso...FABULOUS tip, Karen.
  • I did this about 4 months ago. I went to Nordstrom and was fitted for the first time. Unfortunately, my cup size was a size bigger than I thought. Fortunately, the rep from Le Mystere happened to be at the store and fitted me herself. It was not as embarrassing as I thought it would be. It sure hurts to spend $140.00 on two bras though. In my job, I deal with the public, mostly the poorer public. I've seen how bad a bad bra, or no bra at all, can be..especially on a larger woman. So bite the bullet and make sure the girls are hosted up where they need to be.
  • Anne, I went to Nordie's too to get fitted because I knew that they are known for customer SERVICE as opposed to  Macy's where you can't find a sales person to save your life...but I digress...
I did get GREAT service at Nordstrom's and my bras (expensive as they were) really have held up well.  This summer I went back to get a strapless bra.  I'm not crazy about these kinds of bras but I did get one that fit and again the service was great!
I had considered going to Victoria's Secret for this service and am really glad I didn't.  When my sister-in-law went there we couldn't even find a "greeter" to acknowledge our presence.  I guess we didn't look like we were in the market for peek-a-boo panties or whatever else they had on special that weekend.
  • I've had both good and bad experiences at Victoria's Secret. I think it depends on how busy they are and how competent the SA is. The last time I went, I got Nordstrom quality service and walked out of there with 4 great bras and it cost about $170, which I thought wasn't too bad. Other times, I've left empty handed. It's hit or miss. Nordstrom is great and carries Wacoal; the service is consistent but the bras are more expensive ($70 vs $45). That said, I think Wacoal lasts longer so it all evens out in the end. Also, the Wacoal nude is a really good match for my skin.
There's another really great store by me. It's privately owned and the service is probably better then Nordstrom but here's the problem: the owner/operator is a man. He's got all female employees and I always manage to get one of the to wait on me but the last time I went, he rang up my purchase when I was leaving. I sweat to God, I am not making this up, he held up a pair of panties that I was buying and announced to me and everyone else in the store "YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THESE! I BET YOU'LL BE BACK TO BuY MORE BECAUSE YOU WONT WANT TO WEAR ANYTHING ELSE!" No, I didn't go back to buy more because I was too EMBARRASSED. And that's my funny lingerie shopping story.
  • Yikes, PR, this guy must have GREAT stuff if customers return after that.  Perhaps everyone who goes there is a regular and have learned to live with the lack of...uh...anonymity.
I agree that Wacoal is a superior brand.  I ordered a Barely There t-shirt bra online and it's straps are already going though it feels very nice and was only about $30.

  • k... instead of spending money off my next paycheck on a straightening iron, i'm going to nordies to get better bras!
thing is, i'm still losing weight (working out with personal trainer + better diet.. but metabolism is shot to hell due to lack of sleep so it's a sloww process), so i don't know if it'll be worth it to go now, when in a few months i'll have to get refitted.. hmm...
  • I worked at Victoria's Secret for almost a year a few years ago and I swear that they had to reteach me everytime I worked how to measure bra sizes.  Hated it!  Hate VS!  Too much pressure to be aggressive in sales.  I preferred the register...but still a lot of aggression there too....I never recommend anyone to work there...although I did meet one of my super great friends there...we used to just stuff the panties in the drawers underneath so it wouldn't take as much time to clean up at night...Anyway they told me that an astounding 75% of women are wearing the incorrect bra size...I was not in that group!

Good Luck on the weight loss TG!
  • Hmm.. I really need to do this. I need new bras anyway; I wear my nude ones so often that they really break down quickly. I think all of my bras are Victoria's Secret and they feel and look like they fit, but the strapless ones are a little iffy. I have one strapless bra that really makes me think I might have the wrong size, at least for this particular bra. It doesn't sit correctly on my rib cage. Actually, it seems that any bra that isn't a balconet doesn't fit me well. I wonder if it's a size issue. The balconets seem to fit perfectly.
  • A couple other tips the bra rep at Nordstroms gave me is never wear a white bra under a white shirt, wear nude, and to never wear the same bra two days in a road. She said the elastic needs the time to go back to its original shape before being worn again. She said it will make the bra last a lot longer. Of course it means you need at least two everyday bras. The rep recommended 6. I went with just 3.
  • Anne you can wear light pink under white too...I have.  I prefer it to nude.
  • I'll keep that in mind Kate. I haven't seen the bra I like in pink, but it would be a nice change from nude.
  • I DID get two bras as recommended by the Nordie's girl and I would have to say that they did last quite awhile.  I just alternated them and washed them in some generic product like DREFT.  I didn't had wash them but did put them in a lingerie bag.
I really need a couple more...so I will probably return to Nordie's or get something similar from Bare Necessities.  Any other reasonably priced lingerie sites that anyone can recommend.  LIKE with NO SHIPPING.  I am getting really annoyed with shipping costs...especially when returning stuff.
  • One other tip the sales rep gave me, that I was doing wrong, is that once you adjust your new bra, if the shoulder straps start slipping, tighten the back band, not the shoulder straps. They are slipping because the back band is getting loose and riding up.
  • Righto, Anne! I have heard that adjusting the shoulder straps is the biggest mistake women make in fitting their bras.
