This past year i started to get these really dry spots on the side of my jaw all the way up to my hair, to spots next to my lips. I never had have this happen to me before and i dont know what to do to help control it. I am always outside in the harsh weather sense i am a runner so i know that plays a role in it. But could my face wash be part of it too? i use the clean and clear morning burst and my skin always feel really tight after i wash it and it doesn't go away with moisturizer. Ive done a ton of research to oatmeal mask and avocados and other things, they help for a while but my spots always come back sometimes even worse then before. what should i do?
Definitely go to a GP and or dermatologist. However I suggest you stop using that cleanser, its not gentle enough for you. Try cetaphil and what moisturizer do you use? Use the cetaphil moisturizer too it is unlikely you will have a bad reaction from those products since its pretty gentle. Shea butter and coco butter are very moisturizing. When I was on accutane and had extremely dry flaking skin my doctor gave me: Spectro cleanser for dry skin and Restoraderm: http://www.cetaphil.ca/en/products/restoraderm_eczema.aspx Good luck you may also want to use hydrocortizone cream over the counter on the really bad spots. I know how you feel I have psoriasis the derm gave me a cream that costs 200 dollars a tube but both my parents had medical and it covered everything which was pretty sweet. There's more than one option in topicals though. Luckily for me I guess I dont get it on my face but my hips and inner thighs suffer so bad.
PS- Even in the winter you should wear sunscreen especially since you run. I would say dont bother with "natural" or home cures like whipping up eggs and honey and whatever else coconut oil people say is a good moisturizer and antimicrobial so that would work but a lot of it just isnt worth it not preserved properly not worth the money you spend on the ingredients when you could buy a more effective product for cheaper. I say skip the oatmeal I used to use those homemade oatmeal things when I was younger I didnt see any noticeable difference and its a big disgusting soggy mess. Especially if you dont tie it up in a cloth. I think those food items you put on your faces are a bad idea because skin that is broke out in eczema is really sensitive and delicate and food and plants can have lots of allergens and are not sanitized like a real skin product you buy. Before I knew about the beauty brains I bought into all that "natural is better" and I had extremely painful reactions and acne breakouts most likely because stuff without parabens can grow bacteria easily. My skin I have found reacts much better to synthetics and things preserved with parabens.
Your skin shouldn't feel tight after washing, so it may be that your cleanser is too drying for your skin. Try the Cetaphil Cleanser as recommended above and use a moisturizer for dry skin. If you still have problems, see a dermatologist.
Yeah definitely (that its too drying) clean and clear worked well when I had extremely greasy crazy hormone acne skin. I am sure if the beauty brains looked at the ingredients of your cleanser they would say its too drying for eczema. It would also help to get more healthy fats in your diet, you can look it up for examples some that come to mind are avocados, sunflower, olive and coconut oil etc in my opinion it is more beneficial for your skin to ingest things like that than put it on your skin. If your facial skin is exposed when you run maybe you can put on a thin layer of vaseline after washing your face to seal in moisture and protect your skin from the cold. When I run I put vaseline between my thighs because they naturally touch. Its a good barrier. Someone I knew with eczema ate emu meat. Just sayin lol
A commenter on the "Emu Oil: Beneficial or Bird Brained?" post said that she knows of three instances in which emu oil cleared eczema on children. So, if Mandalyn has an emu, I mean some emu oil, around she could try it on her skin.
